While riding last night the Check Engine Light came on for about 15 min as I was just coming back into town after a relaxed 150 km trip. There was no change in engine performance either at the time the light came on, during the rest of the trip, or today. The bike starts and runs normally.

I ran the diagnostic check tonight and Diagnostic code 61 was alternating between fault codes 12 and 31. Now if I understand this correctly, fault code 12 is a crankshaft position sensor failure and if this was truly a problem with the CPS, the engine should have died and been unable to start again.

A similar situation happened to me earlier in the spring and because fault code 31 is an air:fuel ratio issue, I thought changing the air filter may have had something to do with it. I've put about 6,000 km on the bike since the last check engine light issue.

Any thoughts as to why this issue may be occurring? I've read some posts here that occasionally there can be voltage drops in the system which may cause erroneous codes to be generated.

Any insights gratefully accepted.

Rick
