Had a rubber strap under the tank tear, fall and get lodged between the throttle stop during a ride today. Couldn't get the throttle to close and rpms would only get down to ~1800 rpm. Could have been worse, so before it does with one of you guys, check those rubber straps and other bits for heat damage/ dry rot.

I was under my tank this weekend and noticed the front tank mount had a bit of free play in it once removed from the frame. Went to tighten up the bolts and saw it's sandwiched between steel backed rubber isolator pads.

Bolts were bottomed out- no more tightening to be had. I've been under there several times in the last year ( 2005 with 20K miles) and never noticed this before, is it normal ?

I was wondering if maybe the engine heat was shrinking the rubber...

Mine were rotten away next to nothing at less than 10000 miles.

Noticed them while I was under the tank changing plugs.

I took a small piece of new rubber and secured it with a zip tie.

The rubber that was rotted looks to have had two purposes:

-Tie/cable clamp

-Keep sharp edges covered/protected

My new rubber zip tie setup looks to be an improvement IMHO.
