I took a friend (Vietnam Vet) on a ride today up to Cherry Lake to celebrate Memorial Day. The lake is just outside the Yosemite park boundary and sits about 4700' MSL. The road in was pretty busy with traffic headed out and there were plenty of knotheads cutting corners trying to put us in the weeds on more than one occasion. After the photo op we had a quick break and snack and headed down the hill with the masses. We rode the back way into Tuolumne City (lots of traffic) and had lunch at the Black Oak Casino. My Vet riding buddy and I were talking to a couple at the next table and later found out after they left that they had paid for our lunch in honor of Memorial Day. The couple purposely left in a hurry so we couldn't catch them to argue, nice touch! After lunch I threw $2 into a $1 machine, hit $30, cashed out and left! We were on 108 through Sonora and came upon a line of traffic that turned out to be over 8 miles long. Never found out what the problem was as we wound around through Jamestown and took the back way along Jacksonville road, hit 49 (love that road!) and then took 132 back home. Did I mention there was traffic?! Guess it goes with the territory. I would've taken more pics but we were taking our lives in our hands anytime we stopped along the road as the touristos were using the whole road and often part of the shoulder. A nice day in the California Mountains and it brought a smile to a old (older than me 
) vet.
