I know this is waaayy waaayy in advance, but some people have to plan stuff tjis far ahead to be doable.

I do this EVERY year. Last year sucked *** due to the weather canceling sunday performances, hopefully this year will be much better. Usually the saturday of the airshow I go down and get a spot in LPZ lot around 7-8 am to set up for this.

Yes I use my gas guzzler due to the fact that I bring my grill, 20 lbs of charcoal and anywhere from 1-3 coolers full of water, soda(no etoh on lakefront) chicken, burgers, shrimp(I make cayenne shrimp on the grill) tortilla chips for the homemade salsa I make and a few chicken breasts and steaks marinaded overnight(and seperated) for the "do it yourself" shish-ka-bobs. The SKB's come with green/red pepper, onions, and cherry tomato.

I go early because parking is a ***** after 8 am ANYWHERE around there w/ all this gear. I also just tell people to look for my Tahoe and walk in a straight line from the front end, I am always w/in 5-10 degrees from the nose. It's a lot easier than GPS coordinates.

The past 6 years I've been scheduled to work that weekend and always have to burn a trade day w/ someone . This year my vacation day off is that weekend. This is,hopefully, the beginning of a good year for me.

I figure w/ the Blue Angels coming maybe a few of you would feel like coming down to our pretty lakefront for a day and watch the coolest planes around fly their a$$es for you while we eat like kings/queens.

Usually ,the spot I pick is a 4-5 minute walk to the Lincoln Park Zoo potties, which is a lot better than usiing a port-a-potty(according to my wife). Afterward, the zoo is usually open for awhile, so after I dump and load everything back up, I go walk around there while the crowds dissipate, leaving me to deal w/ FAR less traffic than my temper can handle.

Hopefully, that friday I'll be in Gary w/ the wife meeting the Blues. I'll try to get the FJR on the runway for a photo, just gotta talk to them when we get there. If you don't ask it's always a no, if you do ask, sometimes it's yes!

The dates came out recently so that's why it's up now. So mark your calendars for EAE 2008. ....................EAE(ed's airshow extraveganza ) This is the one weekend I get excited about every year, if you couldn't tell.

Put me in. I am not teaching that weekend and with all the luck I wont be on-call either. It is on my calendar now, unless my wife would have other ideas. And then I would have my son fight her :)

Something tells me that we are lost in translation :)

No one else is coming?

Closer to the date let me/us know what you need us to bring.

I figure I'll repost this in June/july when the summer mood hits everybody and their plans are a little less vague. This was just a save the day notice for evryone, thta's all. :D

When I lived in Chicago going to school at DePaul in 89' and 90' I went to the air show. It was great.

I am going to have to look at my calander and see what I can do. I am going to be using alot of vacation time for a wedding, honeymoon and a little get together in July in Golden. It does not help that I work Sat-Tuesday.

What street is near lpz lot (in regards to fullerton or north ave)? I'd guess you gotta drive north on lake shore and pull in.

If I happen to go to the show, I'll stop by and say hello,, (if I ever find out what you look like, so I can find you). its along way off , dont know where I'll be next month,,less during summer.

P.S. I went to st. vincent de paul grammar school which is up webster by sheffeld (back in the day when the nuns would whip you if you didnt do homework).

P.P.S. do you know emmit kelly from kellys pub (webster again by train tracks/ sheffeld) ? he's a retired fireman. dont know if his family still owns kellys pub or if its still called that if they sold. Just asking cause you said your stationed on north side. Emmit is 2nd cousin. Spent alot of evenings there when you could drink at 18.

Well enuf of the old stuff . I'll save the list of firemen I know if I ever meet you.

The lot is on the s.side of Fullerton,Canon br ends right there, the lot is usually closd off by 0830 due to capacity.Sorry, I don't know Mr.Kelly. I work near Loyola(clark and rosemont is where the house is), so we don't make it that far down unless all hell is breakin loose. At that point, if we see an engine on a call it's usually brief because they're getting hammered too.

Pyrotechnics will be fired at the end of the barge coming off of North Avenue Beach (this is simulated strafe pyros & daytime firework pyros)

Announcer:Herb Hunter (Voice of the Air & Water Show)

The Thursday Show (August 14th) at Gary will feature TORA! TORA! TORA! (Tora however will not participate in the Air & Water show itself)

Bill Leff will perform his night show prior to the fireworks on Friday the 15th over North Avenue Beach. Bill will also be performing his day shows on the 16th & 17th. He is a welcome addition to the lineup.

The United States Navy Leap Frogs have also been added to the lineup.

Also..the special concert before the fireworks/night show on Friday the 15th will be Gary Sinise & the Lieutenant Dan Band (with a special guest)

Other Aircraft will be added to the lineup in the next few months. UH-60 Blackhawks & AH-64 Apaches may once again grace the Chicago skies for the Air & Water Show. We will soon find out what is in store for the Big #50.

As I believe I've said, parking for this event is a little tight, and if you park in the Zoo's lot ,expensive.

Kids are welcome, booze isn't ,due to the fact it isn't allowed on Park District property and, since me and MrsMedic are city employees we can get in trouble at work (suspended)if we get involved and the wrong peolple find out. Seeing as my shift is on that day, they probably will too. Especially since the Chiefs tend to stroll by for a little food once in awhile.

Don't worry about food. I just bought a 100qt cooler that even has wheels to help on rough terrain  .

I make shish-ka-bobs(chicken and steak),hamburgers, chicken breast, skewered shrimp in steak spice, butter and salsa(I also make the Salsa w/ veggies I grow in the yard). Water,Gatorade and, Pepsi are provided as well.

The only 2 things I will need are 1) headcount and 2) allergies/dietary concerns, or medical problems I need to know about(yeah,I added 2 more).

If you say you're coming and don't,that's okay. I'd rather have too much food as opposed to too little. If you're able to park and ride a bike in, that may be your best way. The lakefront path is a real nice ride, before the show, there's also a path that runs on the other side of Lake Shore Drive and runs about 30 ft from where I set up.

I usually go to the Zoo after the show to kill time and avoid the crowds leaving. By the time the Zoo closes ,the crowds and traffic are gone.

If you have any questions, PM me and I'll do what I can to answer them.

Here's a little map of my location. The A is waaay south of where I go. If you zoom out and scroll up and see the Large White Canopy for the primates, I am due east ,right on the eastern edge of the lagoon.

I used to set up farther back, but a new breed of ******** started setting up tents right in front me, somehow they were pissed when my grill melted part of their tent. I told 'em **** off, it was lit before they set up, and told them it's not my job to stop stupidity. :glare: After that, I moved my site up so they can sit in the water if they want. I hate idiots w/ tents, it's ****** rude to everyone else if you ask me.

Ed, My wife did changed plans on me a bit :) We are coming back fro vacation on Sat, but I will be there on Sunday either solo or with my 6 yrs old. I think we will take our bicycles with us and park up north and ride down. Will talk before that.

Damn!! Gonna miss this event this year but I guess going to TN to get married and then riding the FJR for a week in the Smokey Mountains is a good trade off!! :D

Have fun and get lots of pics guys!!

I've held off committing because our summer calendar has been a bear and August is not looking much better. But Jen and I would really like to make this.

BTW - on 8/15, the Bill Murray is scheduled to jump out of a plane at the show (link).
