I know this is waaayy waaayy in advance, but some people have to plan stuff tjis far ahead to be doable.
I do this EVERY year. Last year sucked *** due to the weather canceling sunday performances, hopefully this year will be much better. Usually the saturday of the airshow I go down and get a spot in LPZ lot around 7-8 am to set up for this.
Yes I use my gas guzzler due to the fact that I bring my grill, 20 lbs of charcoal and anywhere from 1-3 coolers full of water, soda(no etoh on lakefront) chicken, burgers, shrimp(I make cayenne shrimp on the grill) tortilla chips for the homemade salsa I make and a few chicken breasts and steaks marinaded overnight(and seperated) for the "do it yourself" shish-ka-bobs. The SKB's come with green/red pepper, onions, and cherry tomato.
I go early because parking is a ***** after 8 am ANYWHERE around there w/ all this gear. I also just tell people to look for my Tahoe and walk in a straight line from the front end, I am always w/in 5-10 degrees from the nose. It's a lot easier than GPS coordinates.
The past 6 years I've been scheduled to work that weekend and always have to burn a trade day w/ someone . This year my vacation day off is that weekend. This is,hopefully, the beginning of a good year for me.
I figure w/ the Blue Angels coming maybe a few of you would feel like coming down to our pretty lakefront for a day and watch the coolest planes around fly their a$$es for you while we eat like kings/queens.
Usually ,the spot I pick is a 4-5 minute walk to the Lincoln Park Zoo potties, which is a lot better than usiing a port-a-potty(according to my wife). Afterward, the zoo is usually open for awhile, so after I dump and load everything back up, I go walk around there while the crowds dissipate, leaving me to deal w/ FAR less traffic than my temper can handle.
Hopefully, that friday I'll be in Gary w/ the wife meeting the Blues. I'll try to get the FJR on the runway for a photo, just gotta talk to them when we get there. If you don't ask it's always a no, if you do ask, sometimes it's yes!
The dates came out recently so that's why it's up now. So mark your calendars for EAE 2008. ....................EAE(ed's airshow extraveganza ) This is the one weekend I get excited about every year, if you couldn't tell.
