Here it goes,

August 2006: Last year I bought a 2006 FJR from Champion Cycle here in Chicago (I bought the only one from that shop according to the salesman). They are only a few blocks away from my house so I figure why not have them do the 600 mile service? The shop is not very big and crammed with mostly crotch rockets both new, old. $330 + parts is what the 600 mile service costs (ouch!). When I dropped off the bike I said I wanted the 600 mile service done and specifically reminded them to change the GEAR OIL. Serviceman was a bit rushed and said "No problem. We'll call you when the bike is ready." The bike was spotless and did not have a spec of dirt on it. 1 day, 2 days pass with no word from Champion Cycle so I give them a call and they said the bike was ready. I picked it up after work just as they were closing. They brought my trustee steed to the front and it looked like it had been hosed with dirty water and left to dry. I said to the serviceman "what, did you leave it out in the rain!?!" No reply. I asked him if he had changed the GEAR OIL like I specifically reminded them to and he said "ummm, uhhh, you don't need to do that for until uhhhh, 16, 26,000 miles." I showed him the manual where its says to replace the gear oil after 600 miles and he said "ummm, uhhh were are closing and won't open till Monday." F-it I said. Got trip coming up so I'll just do it myself. You'd think I'd learn my lesson.

June 2007: Need a new set of tires badly so I made the mistake of sending my trustee steed back to Champion Cycle for new Avon Storms and 8000 mile service. $295 for the pair plus $75 each to put them on (Ouch!) 8000 mi servie is $330; I said change my own oil now; $250. I said make sure you REPLACE THE AIR FILTER. "No problem, we'll call you when its ready" says the serviceman. 1,2,3,4, 5 days pass with no word from Champion Cycle. I call them and they said the bike is ready. I go to pick it up and ask to speak to the mechanic who worked on my bike. He comes up and looks at me with a nasty smirk like I called his mother a whore. I asked if he changed the air filter and he said "no, didn't need it, I just cleaned it off." F-it I said. I bring the bike back home and I can tell they did not grease any of the cables or levers b/c the same orange stuff they used last year was still on there. Plus my new tires only had 30psi in them!!

So, if anyone can recommend a dealer in the Chicagoland area I'd really appreciate it. Please send a PM since this thread is only for dealer reviews. Don't go to Champion Cycle. They treat you like Sh*t, very expensive, and don't do the work they say they do.

I considered buying an '06 from them in August '06. Five hour drive one way for me.

Called them for an out the door price, and couldn't get a straight answer-- one thought I should pay sales tax even tho' I live out of state-- that is not correct. Second time I called for a final price before I left the house with cash in hand and a trailer to haul it home, the price went up because they wanted either freight or dealer prep.

I called a dealer in Bloomington, told them what I could get the bike for in Chicago, and they came with in $50 of it, so I went to Bloomington the next morning.

Champion acted like they could care less about a sale, even tho' it was cash and out the door.

My sentiments exactly. When I called for a quote the guy said they don't give quotes over the phone. Although they had the cheapest price, they did have some attitude.

I agree with all that was said here. I have not gotten my bike serviced at Champion, but when I called them once and asked about service, they asked me if I bought my bike from them. I said "no". (I've got a 2005 and when I was purchasing it Champion was charging me nearly $2500 more than the actual dealer I purchased from in WI). Anyhow, they refused to service my bike because they said I hadn't purchased from them. What a load of crap. They are a Yamaha dealer and service Yamaha bikes!! Terrible. Don't trust anyone at Champion for a lick. Terrible customer service. Terrible service. Prices that are too high.

I have a service appt with Countryside Yamaha just south of Chicago next week. I'll let you guys know how that goes next week.

You should write yamaha custimer service with that one !!!! Maybe they'd loose their yami franchise, Suppose you where in a different state on a trip, no-one would service your bike because you didnt buy from them ??

I too agree that Champion Cycle is NO GOOD!! They advertise prices that simply aren't true... Their Frieght and setup fees add to almost $1000 over their advertised prices!!! Yes, I have purchased from them before and will NEVER AGAIN deal with them. THEY SUCK!
