Well it's unseasonably warm here (40 last night at 22:00), so took her out for one of the last rides of the year (supposed to drop to the teens by next Sunday, and the seat pans are due in to Russell by 1/20). Seoul has a huge light display downtown, so the crowds were massive. Total travel time was about 90 minutes, distance about 5 miles. Sights were great, but it's tough in that kind of traffic, especially with pillion. I'll post up a few pics in a day or so...

Christmas day today, and I will be feeding about 4000 or so Soldier's, Sailor's, Airmen, Marine's and civilians and their families. It used to be unusual to run across one of them who had been to the desert. Now it's pretty normal to hear stories of 3 and 4 rotations though that hell that's been created.

As hard as my team works during the holiday's it tough not to get emotional when you see these guys and gals spending a few moments with their loved ones. These days most spend more time apart than together.

A good friend operates the family temporary quarters at the Walter Reed Medical Center in DC. IF you have time, are near by and have an inkling, drop by today, and say thanks to those who may not have families able to visit, as well as the staff who are doing an unbelievable job with our service members who have come back and survived unimaginable injuries.

Sorry about the ramble, enjoy your holiday! If you are somewhere that has fairly dry/safe roads, you need to get out and ride that thing today and thank whatever God you believe in for the folks working around the world that makes our way of life possible. Merry Christmas!

Could you post some pictures of the local celebration? Thanks, and have a Merry Christmas.

Yes need pictures, spent over a dozen years living and working in the far east. One of things that was amazing to me was how the people of other cultures ( non Christian) have embraced the spirit of gifting and giving in this season.

Keep up the good work Dragonchef, I do remember from my service life, that no matter what mud hole you where currently living in you could count on a good hot meal on Thanksgiving and Christmas. :clapping:

Anyong hashimnika! (Osan AB '75-'77) Merry Christmas!

Would love to see those photos, or any others of Christmas in Korea.

I would think that riding in Seoul would be an intense experience.

And thank you for reminding us about the troops and reality. Peace.

Oldmike,

here's a link to one of Dragon's excellent reports,

Thanks so much for that, rogdeb!

But dammit, when I go to the ride reports section, I end up burning hours on end reading and looking and wishing.

Korea is a fantastic place, with fantastic people.

This nostalgia thing is a killer around this time of the year. sniff.

(enough disjointed thoughts.) ;)

I wonder if downtown Seoul has 'cleaned up' in the last twenty years. My memories are busses belching deep black diesel smoke, eyes watering, and general mayhem. Curfew was in effect too.

Hey DragonChef, post some pix, I would love to see the new Korea!

..and, for the record, the countryside of South Korea was fascinating. I spent time in a small village north of Pusan, playing with their nuclear reactors..

Yobosayoh! (telephone version of Anyong Hashimnikah). :)

(2nd D, 122nd Signal, Camp Casey 1974 - 76)

And, in these trailing days of the holiday season:

Yesunim tongshinun sahdanhamnida!
