OK, I was really hoping that CJ would be able to take his ride back this year, but that doesn't seem like it's in the cards.
I'm willing to step back in and organize and lead this Chowder-head ride again, if you are all willing to follow me, but my schedule is somewhat limited.
As for timing, the weekend of May 28-30 is the Memorial Day long weekend. As everyone knows, that is the
official start of the summer tourist season, and we don't really want to be riding around, especially on the southern Maine coast, on that weekend. That also marks the beginning of higher room rates on the Vacation-land coast.
Last year we held this ride on the weekend prior, which is probably the most opportune weekend. My limitation is I need to fly out of town Sunday night that weekend for work. So what if we start the ride in York on Thursday AM (May 19th). We'll arrange to stop at more spots (including Allison's Restaurant, for lunch this year
) and take a little longer at each of the photo stops. We won't have to try and rush to make it to Freeport in time for dinner at Harraseeket (that was the big rush last year, as they close early) and we'll just plan on a later dinner somewhere else in the Freeport area that stays open later.
Friday would be the ride up through Boothbay Harbor and up along the coast, stopping in the Rockland area again for lunch. It will be a weekday so should be somewhat faster than last year.
Saturday would be the self guided ride-about in the Mt Dessert/Bar Harbor/Acadia area, and then Sunday folks could mosey on home. Or you could catch the ride any where along the way that you can make it to. It is my honest opinion that the best part of this whole agenda is up in the Acadia area. If we get some weather like we had last year, well it is just like heaven.
So pipe up here quick like, and if there is enough interest I'll throw it together and make the required arrangements.
