I was driving it up my new ramps to get it into the storage shed; I had to make a turn as soon as I got the front wheel onto the floor of the shed, and CRASH! I and the bike fell over on the right side. Thank God, neither was injured too badly; as for the bike, it has some scraped paint in a few places.

Question: when you order replacement body panels from Yamaha, does it come prepainted according to year, or does everything come unpainted?

Even though the bike is practically brand new (<200 miles), I'd consider some good spray touch-up paint, since it's so minor. But if the panels aren't rediculously expensive and they come painted, I might plop down for some new panels.

At least now I know how NOT to get the bike into the building.

Thanks in advance for any info....

Are there any Yamaha folks on the board that could I.D. and give me prices on the applicable body parts? I can take & send dig. pic's tomorrow.

Also, fossilrider, for my bike, I see that colorRite has the bodywork color (dark cherry). I'd also need the silver/gray on the tail section. I wonder if they have that....

Thanks, all.

Panels come color specific, if not too bad, you can also order touch-up paint from ColorRite.

What a tease. I thought he actually "christened" it, not misspelled "CRASHED" it :glare: .

Again, TEASE

Golly... some folks are so literal! :D

Sorry to disappoint. This was a "baptism by fire," FIGURATIVELY!

Thanks to all for the pointers. I'll check 'em all out. Can't wait to get it "as new" again. (And man, that sombitch is heavy!)

And some "newbies" wonder why we suggest SLIDERS as the first farkle.

'Jist cuz we is stoopid en neber herd o' this hapnin afore!

hooray sliders! hooray U-motors! Booooooo, scratched tupperwear....

By the way, colorite paint/reducer is expensive. If it's just touchup, you could do that, but if you actually have to get it painted, just buy new panels. Did you get the upper and the lower, or just the lower? What about the nose (front) fairing, and the rear-view mirror. If you got all of those, you probably want to start think about filing a claim with the insurance.

good luck, get slider!

I missed the windshield, tank, and upper body; but I did get the tail, nose, and right mirror pretty good. Nothing's cracked or broken or apparently misaligned, though.

Unfortunately, I have $1000 deductible insurance, and I'm hoping I can have it all fixed for much less than that. But good idea....I'll keep that in mind. I appreciate it!

Please point me to the frame sliders.

Actually, I never came close to dropping my Honda CBX. It probably had a lower center of gravity; but maybe if I'd have tried to pull this off with it, I wouln't have been so lucky all that time.

I should have considered a couple things before I attempted to do what I did: the FJR is a top-heavy bike at low speeds, especially with 6 gallons of gas. And I tried to take that turn with the back wheel still on the ramp.

Live and learn (hopefully).

There are several options for frame sliders. Check the vender section, Skyway makes some. Moko's are good too (not sure how they mount on 07, but I have them on my 04).

Unfortunately, the plastics are not cheap. That tail piece is very expensive. Post some pics if you get a chance. I'm not sure how you got the nose, but not the upper right fairing? Also, are you going to do it yourself, or have the shop put the new plastics on? Labor ain't cheap either....

Depending on the damage, you also have the option of sending it to Garauld for paint repair. Everyone has been very satisfied with his work. Shipping should only cost like 15-20 bucks each way.

The FJR is just plain heavy. Once it starts going over, there is little you can do to stop it.

OK, I'm going to have a look at the sliders and see if I can get some prices on these pieces of "Tupperware" :D

Meanwhile, here's the damage:

ouch!

The W brackett shouldn't hurt too much. The mirror and tail is gonna hurt like hell. Maybe consider touch up until a matching panel comes up on ebay or sumpn.

Mine has battle scars, I'm afraid to replace them and bring back bad juju.

Just sent Mike at U-Mo an e-mail after getting a quote from the local dealer for about $300. I guess that's not as bad as it could be. I've decided to just replace the parts instead of painting.

I'll let you know how I make out.

Thanks for all the help, guys....

If anybody needs any information on 72 Buick Gran Sports, just p.m. me. That was my real love before Katrina wet up everything. Owned my GS455 for 27 years.

Mike at U-Mo ordered my parts on Friday. I don't have the parts in hand yet, so I hate to brag....but I must say.... he's saving me dern near 50% on those parts. Thanks again to all who responded and to the board managers for all the info. I hope never to have to use my local dealership for parts. They were merciless.
