So last night I took my custom bike(Kenny Boyce) out for a ride about 45 mins. Then went back home grabbed the FJR pulled on to the main road doing about 30-40MPH lady coming out of side street pulled out in front. Stopped within 2 feet of her truck. Scared the **** out of me. So her excuse was I had the right turn blinker on. So is there a self canceling unit out other???? My Fatboy had one and Kenny Boyce I have to keep the direction preesed. Also in my own opinion If I was on my other bikes I think I would have hit her.

I forget to clear my turn signal all the time and am aware that this is misleading drivers-

If MamaYama is listening- self canceling signals on all bike would be a life saver!

Keeping the customers alive gives them the opportunity to buy something else for the garage (R1?)

Maybe I'm the only one who didnt know this but...... For the first 700miles or so I was trying to slide the dang turn signal button right and left in order to cancel the signal. Then I actually studied the directions. It was great to know that I just HAD TO PUSH THE BUTTON IN TO CANCEL THE SIGNAL!

Directions......who would have thought....... :)

Uhm... How many (non-BMW) bikes have you had?

I've gotten quite good at pushing in the button on my Suzuki Boulevard C50 cruiser. I've actually gotten my self into a habit of pushing it in .... in a timely fashion. I'm glad to know that this new habit/skill will not be wasted on my new FJR. Imagine if you had developed a skill and then ended up in a position where you couldn't use it? What would life be like? Anyone a psychologist out there?

I for one DON'T want self canceling turn signals. There a series of traffic lights that I have to turn left twice on way to work, and self canceling turn signals kick off before I'm through the intersections (after waiting at the lights).

Besides, if you're not paying enough attention to cancel your turn signal, you're not paying enough attention to ride! (IMHO)

Yeah, but I think every rider forgets from time to time. I imagine very few riders could say they have never forgotten to cancel the signal.

+1 for doin it yourself...

I do see alot of FJR riders though (YOU know who you are) who leave the blinky on - mile after mile...

Usually the same ones that hit the kill switch and leave there lights on a stop... :D

It can't be just me that pushes that button to cancel signals that aren't even on every so often. TJ :p

I even cancel the turn signals on my car when I make a turn. I surely don't want them on my motorcycle. I've had them on a couple of bikes, they sucked.

If you can't remember to push the little button in, perhaps you shouldn't be riding on 2 wheels.

It's not.

I catch myself doing it when I come to an intersection where I am not turning (and don't want to be seen as turning).

I don't leave mine blinking that often anymore, but I'm in the camp FOR self- cancelling signals. I think it's far worse to be signaling a turn that you're not making than to not be signaling one you are.

It's the only aspect of my life that's got some OCD to it. I punch the cancel every so often as I motor.

My 1982 Suzuki had self canceling signals. They were tied into the speedometer so if you were sitting at a light they would just keep blinking untill you drove a little. Perfect. Wish I had them on the FJR.

But then again, that's all that was superior.

The GL1800 has them tied into the speedometer as well, and the cancel distance varies with speed. But they still cancel too early most of the time. I also have problems, especially having one bike that auto-cancels and one that doesn't.

One trick I have learned that seems to help is this. When you put on your turn signal, put your thumb on top of the switch in preperation to push in and cancel. Don't move your thumb off the switch until you have pushed it. This finger position serves as a mental reminder that you need to push the button so you can return your thumb to it's proper positon (no, not there).

Hope this helps.
