As some of you know, I broke a clutch basket spring on my ZX-14 & it bounced around taking out the oil pump gear.

Anyway, I'm trying to track down 'why' they broke.

What function do the springs perform? They're just loose in the basket assembly held in by tabs ('06-'07 are fully enclosed, '08- are not).

Anyone know???

Thanks.

I think they are just for a bit of a cushion in the primary drive similar to the rubber blocks in the rear wheel of chain drive bikes. For heavy use I would think it would be better If they weren't there.
