OK, The I didn't get anywhere with the dealer concerning my sticking clutch Problem, so I am going to try this myself. I have the manual on CD, But it tells me I have to take off the rear balence shaft.

Is that right? I have never had to do much to get clutch plates out of my VTX 1800, Just take off the cover and remove the disc spring and there are the plates. Is this any different?

Also, What do I need to know about removing the side panel. is there an easy way to do that?

I can't find anything in my Searches here on this. Has anyone done the Clutch soak themselves that can help me?

Thanks

Hi, I had taken the lower fairing off for something else when I did my clutch plates. Just take the clutch cover bolts out and take the cover off. Clutch is exposed and you do not have to remove the rear balence shaft unless you want the clutch basket out too. (not needed) Same as you did before.

The inside and outside friction disk are different from the others so pay attention to how they come out. I cleaned the disk and then soaked them in the oil I drained out for an oil change after I removed the clutch. Do not over tighten the clutch bolts. I would think they would be easy to strip.

(7# torque I think)

I soaked mine for the 24Hr.+ and they work perfect now, Have fun Harold

From the diagrams in my Yamaha Service Manual (rather than the "pirate copy" disks that are illegal because they violate existing copyright laws) it looks like the rear balancer would have to be pulled if you were removing the entire clutch assembly, including the clutch housing. Since you are only removing the "pack" of friction plates and clutch plates, it appears to be done like your Honda.
