OK, OK.... I know I'm mechanically challenged, but I did print out Barbarian's instructions regarding "Changing the FJR's CO Setting" and trotted out to the garage to make the changes.

Here's what I did. Depressed both buttons, turned on the key .... waited and the 'diag' screen showed up. I then pressed the select button (left one) to enter the CO mode. (waiting........... waiting........ ) Nothing happened. No "CO" screen appeared.

I turned the key off and repeated the above. Still no "CO" screen.

What am I doing incorrectly?? BTW, the dealer's tech said he increased all the numbers +7 as I asked.

Thanx for the help.

Barbarian is for an 03. There is an addition for the 04 and later. I messed up and did an 03 on an 04 and it wouldn't work. When I did jumper the right ones everything was fine. Recheck the pins and make sure you are on the right ones.

Doc.... I know that the "Jumper Mod" posted by Barbarian is for the '03. What I'm speaking about is the CO settings and how that can be accomplished on an '06.

I'm attempting to see if the Yamaha tech did, indeed, do the jumper mod for my '06 and change the CO settings. That's why I wanna enter the CO setting mode.

Your button/key technique is correct for accessing the CO display. If you are not seeing the display you should check the Jumper. The purpose of the Barbarian jumper is to enable the CO menu to be displayed on the meter. No jumper, no CO display. Your tech may have installed the jumper then removed it. There will probably be a tell-tail sign of a missing white plug in the connector if he was there.

Verify the jumper is in place between pins #25 to #29. If the jumper is in place be sure that it is fully seated, the jumper has to pass completely through the male side of the connector and reach fully into the female side of the connector. Until the jumper is done correctly there will be no CO display.

You will need to know the starting CO values in order to tell if they have been changed.

So how log would you say that is? I tried the Mod on my 05 and had 1/4 of wire maybe a little more.

I took a lenght of wire long enough to reach across, stripped both ends, made a U and stuck em in there with caution. Pushed them down as far as I could, then locked them in.

I could not get the CO to come up either, so I gave up.

That may not be long enough. To be done with the ECU connector plugged together --- > Take a paperclip, straighten it out and GENTLY push it in until it bottoms in the connector. Mark the point where the clip is flush with the connector, pull the clip out, measure. This is the depth you need. To help ensure that your jumper contacts the connector pin it would help for it to be ~18 ga. stranded wire. This *should* do it.

I did the jumper mod on an '06; somewhere on this forum is an updated instruction set for the '06 as to which pin to move. Do a search, make sure you've switched the correct pin--it appears to be different for every model year. I don't know if pin 25 to 29 is correct for the '06, verify this first.

As to needing to know the correct CO values, do another search on this site for the '06 OEM factory CO settings. It appears there were primarily two common groups of settings from the factory; mine (-10, 8, 8, 11, IIRC) was the more common original set of settings. However, this was discussed on another thread here, so you should be able to find them.

on my 06 you switch 25 to 23 and vica versa with the white pin and my co settings came right up on the sreen

Let me add,"I Think?" do a search .That's where I found it

that would be "screen"

I think the tech fella did not do the "jumper mod". He said he did, but as I said before, the bike runs just like it did before I brought it in. Same/same with the throttle. He was not thrilled to do it, but said he did.... ahhhh, right. Hence, my inability to enter the CO mode.

I suppose I'll have to tackle this deal myself. I'm not thrilled about doing it either. As I said, I'm not much of a 'wrench'.

When I tackle this job ... what Tupperware do I remove. The entire right side?

I'm sure there must be a "step-by-step" version of how to access the ECU on an '06.

Bagger, you need to hold BOTH buttons down to go from DIAG to CO screens, and then BOTH buttons to toggle between cylinders.

Jim... I know. The problem is, after I enter the diag screen, I CANNOT enter the CO screen. Which seems to mean to me that the "jumper mod" was not done. I can't get to the CO screen to see what the values are.

Bagger,

Do the jumper mod yourself. I am no wrencher either but I did it with no problem. I printed out the instructions and had them with me step by step. They are very clear and precise. PM me if you need help and I will do my best.

I suspect finding a dealership that will mod your ecu would be hard to do. There's too much concern about liability and EPA fines these days.

Just take off the silver panel on the left side (below the seat). Same panel you remove to get to the air cleaner (see your owners manual).

Pull the airbox cover and the ECU plug is right there. Just swap the wire and plug between spots 25 and 23 (on an '06). It's very easy. Just follow the instructions for unlocking the wires from the connector and don't drop the little white plug.
