Cold November Ride - Nov 26, 2010
Freeze warning was in effect the morning of Nov 26th. Temps in Phoenix were expected to hit the mid to low 30's. We got started around 8:00, so the sun had warmed things up a bit. We headed out Shea Blvd. to the Beeline highway, then north, skirting the Mazatzal mountains to the Roosevelt Lake turnoff. Just north of Mt. Ord, the temp dropped to 36 degrees, and I was cold (time to get some heated gear). At Jake's Corner we turned south through the Tonto Basin and along Roosevelt Lake toward Globe/Miami. We stopped for some mexican food in Miami, then continued southwest through Superior and on into Phoenix.
Man, was I glad to have my little Aerostich heated bib. It doesn't provide much coverage, but gets hot and blocks any wind that makes it through the front zipper of my jacket. It was nice to have a hot little pad on my chest during the ride.
Dave and Rick (Slab Pig) seemed to stay nice and comfortable. Dave with his full-on heated gear and Rick with his old-school alpine climbing gear. No problems for them.
