Committed to Purchase My First FJR Today

I've been shopping for a few weeks now and sewed up a deal today. I will do a Fly N Ride early next week to pick it up. It is a 2010 with around 4250 miles on it.

It is In Colorado Springs and I live in CA Central Coast, so it will be a nice ride home. I'll post some pics when I get on the road.

Just curious, how are you getting around the 7500 mile requirement for Cal licensing or is the bike Cal emissions?

Richard, I bought an 07 several years ago from North Dakota with 3100 miles on the clock. I haf it shipped to San Jose, Ca. When I took it to DMV to get registration they said nothing about the mileage but they would not pass it because it was not a CA designated bike on the nomenclature sticker. I told them it was a U.S. qualified bike and they told me to get proof from Yamaha and bring it to the DMV. They gave me the form they had checked off and told me to take it to the clerk inside when I got the proof. I took the form walked around the corner and checked the box they left bland and took it to the clerk inside and they took my $$ and gave me a new license plate. Hopefully you can navigate the bull shit CA puts in our path.

Congrats on the new ride. I brought an 08 Wing from Oregon to Ca a year and a half ago. Emission stickers, CA DMV wants to see oem emission stickers and vin numbers. A good friend just brought in a 2002 Triumph Bonnieville and someone removed all stickers. He is on his 3rd trip to DMV

Thanks for all the responses, especially yours Art! I registered an older BMW from Texas a while back and kind of know the routine and I do plan on extending the trip back a bit. I will still have a few weeks to accumulate enough miles to get it to 7500.

In my research about FJRs, I remember seeing that the "later" ones were 50 state legal and I was thinking this one was. I will check into it, but don't think it is a deal breaker.

Richard, The FJR's imported to the U.S. and legal for sale in CA (new) have a suffix (CA). The only difference is the CA bikes have a gas tank vapour recirculation canister. Hopefully you will not have a hassle with DMV. Just ride the bike until you surpass the 7500 mile mark before going to DMV. Please let us know how it went with DMV after the event. Thanks and enjoy the ride home. I just returned from Taos, NM and Durango, CO a couple weeks ago. From Colorado Sprs ride out to Montrose and south to Silverton and south to Durango. A good stop going west is Mesa Verde Natl Park (cliff dwellings). If you have not been to Zion and Bryce Natl Parks they are an easy hit on the way home.

Richard, you may already be aware of this, but here is my experience with the California DMV. I am an Oregon Resident, but spend my winters in California. In 2007 my Mother-in Law bought a new 2008 STS and gave me her old 1999 Eldorado. That fall we took it to California and my wife was advised by our insurance company to register it in California because we would be leaving it there in our garage for six months. We took it in to be registered. We were asked how long it had been in California and we truthfully said three weeks. We were fined $150 for not registering it within two weeks. Don't know if this is still the policy, but if you plan on riding it awhile before registering, be prepared to lie. I sure which I had.
