How many folks that are going on rides have b2b comm systems? What kind? Jst curious as I have nothing right now but plan on having one by then and wouldn't mind being able to interact with whatever group I'm riding with. I plan on installing the starcom 1 adv before then but wondering if anybody thought about or has a specific type of radio/frequecy n mind?

I know some people do it on group rides, figure it'll keep suprises a minimum as well as risks ie; road hazard, sudden need for course change :close_tema: or LEO's while riding at "spirited" pace?

Better to have it and not need it, than need & not have it!

Details. The Autocom systems are designed around and for this radio. Call Keith Goudelock (pr. Godlock) at Tulsa Truck Center 918.446.2245 and pick his brain before you buy a comm system. He knows (and uses) that ****. Get the plastic ready though. A good system ain't cheap, but a cheap system ain't good!

+1 on bike-to-bike being a big advantage for group riding!

I can run with CB or FRS radio via my Starcom. Just a cable and radio switch out and I carry both with me.

+ 2 Toecutter. We've used the Kenwood-autocom setup for two years and are extremely happey with it. After 20 years of CB I'm comvinced it will never amount to anything other than a forum for motormouths.

I have a GMRS (RINO) tapped into my Autocom. It works great, but it's LOUD because it puts out 5 watts unlike the Kenwood's 2. The VOX function works extremely well.

Smitty and the Hooterville gang with Kenwoods have been using channel 15 and privacy code 22. For everyone else with GMRS radios, the privacy codes are the same, but channel 15 in "Woody" is 22 in "Normal GMRS". So if you want to use 15 for Woody's and 22 for all (as far as I know) others, that makes it easy. 22-22 and 15-22.

Here's a conversion chart for Kenwood channels to "Normal" Channels:

I have also been thinking about adding B2B radio to my Starcom Advance. Why would you use Kenwood over let's say a Motorola Talkabout? The Kenwood has less watts and less distance than the Motorola. 1-2 watts compared to 2-5 watts.

Also what is the best PTT system? I know Starcom has the adapter. Jeff chime in if you need want. But I am sure I saw something in the forum where they added a PTT switch into the housing next to the horn. That would be such a clean and neat set up.

Thoughts?

The Kenwood has a module that can make it bike powered. My RINO is also bike powered. I think I had to use a GLI filter on it.

Can't help you with a PTT.

This radio is out of production now.
