Have an issue with needed communication bike to bike among our group. I have the Starcom1 unit (which is great) and have used a motorola talkabout frs to comm w/ a Chatterbox guy. Now I will be taking a trip with a guy who has a UltraClassic. I believe they use a CB comm device for their bike to bike (built-in if I remember correctly). Has anyone on the list had experience in setting up comm between Harley riders before? Frs/gmrs is the easy reliable way to go, just not sure what the best method would be talking with the Harley.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

just about all bikes that come with factory comm are using CB. as are most LEO (CHP gives traffic instructions to trucks this way). Nothing against FRS and such, but when my dad and I added comm, we both used CB--there were a few riding groups that all used CB as a standard.

Starcomm, autocomm, and the others all refer commonly to Kenwood radios, but will work with most. The antenna setup is vital to good signal. If you buy a realistic (Radio shack cheapo) and need to do experimental drilling or such for mounts, it doesnt hurt as bad.

Diver,

Thanks for the response. Do you have any opinions regarding a specific CB unit that could be used in a tank bag or on a "techmount" stemstand connected to an antenna? Or possibly a CB unit that has a built-in antenna? I just think it might be easier for me to source a CB to plug into the Starcom1 unit than to have him add an frs/fmrs device.
