Hmm... a few interesting things I took out of this article.

An all-purpose DC socket makes it easy to use grip heaters and other electrical accessories. Its capacity is 70W.
So does this mean that's all thats available to farkles?

To ensure a deep lean angle while offering improved comfort (thanks to less bend at the knees) during long hours in the saddle, the seat height is 15 mm higher than the ZZR's.
Compared with the ZZR, the GTR's grips are located 96 mm further back and 100 mm higher, giving a more relaxed and upright riding position than a pure supersport bike, but a sportier riding position than conventional sport touring bikes.
Its going to be much more of a sporty stance than the FJR is.

The GTR runs on the same size tyres as the ZZR (Front=120/70ZR17; Rear=190/50ZR17, however the tyre treads and compounds were specially formulated to the unique requirements of the GTR
Standard size tire has typically been a 180/55. Wonder how the handling will be affected if you switch to it. It improved handling on my CBR, so perhaps it will do the same here.

Fatter, less range, still unknown service tasks/intervals... I'm still lovin' the FJR. I don't get these mfg's... If I were trying to trump the competition, I sure would have beat all of the best seller's specs, then add stuff like adjustable pegs/foot controls just for ***** and giggles. Meh, on the other hand, that would make too much sense.

Depends on the wheel selected. I was hoping Yamaha would go to a 6" wide rear wheel on the Gen II's but they elected to stay with a 5.5". On a 195/50 a 5.5 would be able to produce the best footprint for 1/4mi runs where the 6" would be optimum for load carring and handling.

I don't get why some o' yous are bashing this bike before it hits the street. Basing your opinion on specs alone is foolish considering all of the intangibles.

Yes, I would like to believe my FJR will be better than anything available, but as far as I am concerned, the jury is out until this thing gets some real world reviews and ride reports. It is actually possible that this will become the next must-have platform for ST riders.

Dude, remember who you're talking to. I think 95 percent of us bought our FJR's site unseen. I based my decision on a press photo.

and what was the compitition?

the now 'old' connie...

ubber $$$$ bmw...

the venerable 'wing'...

offerings from several manufactures that might not be around for product support...

the price and manufacture rep made it a no brainer with no compitition...

plus, you did get ride reports from across the pond, unless you preordered the 2004...

My point exactly, there was no competition and there hadn't been any for a long time. I got my 03 in july of 02 used with 250 miles on it. Paid a premium and had to go two states away for it. The FJR was not without is bad press, tick tick tick, which I fell victim to. Still, the only thing like it is another FJR.

Some people considering the new Connie might be thinking the same thing. Its exactly what they have been waiting for. Not me. I got what I was waiting for.

I sure like the looks especially the mirrors. I like the slipper clutch too. I'd love to try one out sometime!
