Forgive my ignorance but I'm not sure my 2007AE has ABS. My dealer said it didnt' have it, however, some of the posts here say they didn't make a non ABS model in '07.

Never owned a bike with ABS before so really don't know how to check for the difference. Thanks in advance for your replies. :(

My '06 AE has ABS and I believe all Gen II's have ABS as standard equipment. If you look at the wheels on the hubs on the right side of the bike you will see the sensor on each wheel.

OR..........try the redneck approach. Get your bike up to a reasonable speed ~30, let off the gas and stomp the rear brake. If it just hunkers and stops, you have ABS and it's working right. I'm sure someone has done this with the front brake, but I haven't tried that yet.

or

Look in the *technical* section of the spec chart.

Plus a here's a front wheel pic.

JMHO, but if you're gonna use that dealer for service, I hope the guys in the shop are smarter than the salesman. Elsewise you're gonna have problems.

It may well be that they tested it with the "stomp-on-the-rear-brake" method and locked the wheel. There are instances of frozen valves, solenoids, whatever, in the ABS hardware which render the system inoperable.

There is also a way to "exercise" those items in the diag menu on the LCD, which may loosen up frozen parts, but I don't have those specifics.

The bike was delivered with ABS. Whether it still works may be a different matter.

I picked up the bike Sat morning with 00 miles. Just don't think my salesman was that knowledgeble as he mostly sells Yamaha boats and jet skis.

All GenII's (2006+) have ABS.

That's what the 'A' in 'AE' means.

So, yes, your FJR does have ABS. Go jimmy-kick your salesman for not knowing what he's selling.

Enjoy!

That is a problem at a lot of the dealerships. They just don't see, or sell, a lot FJRs so are not always very knowledgeable on them. You have already found the best resource for info. Here!

Amen to that. lol

Look for the ABS warning light when you turn on the ignition. No warning light, no ABS.
I'll tune that statement and add a few more words. Look for the ABS warning light when you turn on the ignition. The ABS light should come on for about 0.5 seconds and go off again if all is well. If the ABS computer has detected an error the ABS light will stay on or continue to flash.

I was one of the Gen I owners that checked the box for ABS on the order from.

For some reason I failed to notice the ABS light but just checked and it's definitely there. Guess I was too busy looking at the readings on the computer board.

Monry, Monry, Monry...

RTFOM...

PS - Knowledgeable Motorcycle Salesperson is an oxymoron.
Since Monry's sale involved a less than competent salesperson there is a chance that his FJR did not come with the owner's manual. If this is the case, Monry you need to click this link to Yamaha where you can read, or download a PDF or purchase the owners manual. >>LINK<<

OK, guys, I just joined and already infamous. I have over 5,000 posts on the Triumph Tiger 1050 forum in three years and, looking back, asked some pretty stupid questions when first joining it. Bear with me guys. Promise I will do better when I figure out all these bells and whistles. I have an owner's manual but didn't read the part about ABS as didn't think I had it.

By the way, is there a shop manual on the web that can be downloaded?

Thanks for all the replies. :)

We don't always to more gooder either.

There are manuals that can be downloaded but they are all 100% pirated copies. The only manual that is Yamaha authorized is the Yamaha paper manual. You can buy the paper manual from dealers and online stores with a wide range of prices so shop around.

Congratulations on the T in place of the R Mr T

BTW, hope you survived all the really nasty stuff Mother Nature cursed you with. Having lived in and around Rolla for half of every year for 18 years I know how the weather can get. Spent a lot of time in the root cellar listening to the wind shred the crops and take out the trees.
