Sherri took MSF awhile ago and we bought her a new FZ6. Since then due to the bike needing to be lowered (took time to get the shock) and due to her back issues coming and going, and due to nervouseness, she wasn't riding all that much. Recently, she decided to conquer her fear and today she asked me to help her start riding again. We started MSF style with walking the bike and getting a feel for the clutch and controls again. Yep, you don't have to drag your feet to stop!

We graduated to getting her feet on the pegs and then to riding around the block and shifting. All this was coming to her quickly and she and Rachael , our neighbor that rides a 1200 Sportster, went on a ride. Sherri rode out of the neighborhood and did 12 miles to a few people's homes. She came home stoked and ready for more. :yahoo:

Congratulations Sherri!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :clapping: :clapping:

Way to go girl! :thumbsupsmileyanim:
Thanks!!! :) I started that new job last week and commuting in rush hour traffic, watching all the motorcyclists lane splitting made me jealous. Then my neighbor got a bike and she has been on that thing every chance she can get! (She does have an advantage over me in that she has riden quads and such before, where as I have not.) So, she offered to go out on the road with me and take the back roads and take it slow... so, off we went today (after I had a HUGE anxiety attack about the whole thing but sucked it up because I was the one that agreed to get back on the bike today).

All in all, I'm very pleased to have done it and not dropped it and hurt myself again. Those days are behind me. I had fun and was feeling a lot more comfortable. FINALLY! :)

If you are reading this, you shouldn't worry that I'll be riding my bike as a commuter vehicle or lane sharing for a looooooong time. I am going to take it slow and ride a little each day when I get home from work and get more comfortable.

As for a long distance ride, well, we'll wait and see!

Blessings,

Sherri

Just take it easy and if it doesn't feel right don't do it. Ride at your own pace and not someone Else's and you should be fine.

Way to go Sherri! :yahoo:  Pretty cool to cowgirl up,conquer the fear, and still have room for joy..

Great! We did pretty much the same thing exactly one year ago. We took it easy at first and now get out nearly every weekend to kick around the country side. Enjoy.

That's just the right attitude. Having been on the back, you know what kind of skills are necessary to survive street combat. Take your time. Most things worth having are worth some wait.

:good:

Ssshhhh! Can you keep a secret Sherri? This is addictive. Now you've conquered the anxiety, the roads are yours. Twelve miles today? Twenty miles next weekend, then fifty, then a hundred then who knows? I can see that Andrew will have to keep a close watch on his FJR.

I started on a VStar 650 and wouldn't go anywhere alone on it. Imagine - ME riding a bike with a displacement of six hundred and fifty cc's. That was a BIG deal - for a while. A year or so later, I traded up to the 1100. At that point, the furthest I'd ever ridden in one day was a hundred or so miles. That was a big deal too!!! A month after getting the 1100, Andy and I took a 2500 mile road trip.

Since then, there's no stopping me. I traded up to the FJR and love it (apart from the not reaching the floor bit). I commute on my bike and sometimes share lanes. I will ride alone but prefer to have someone with me, for company (and valet parking purposes).

It warms my heart to hear of a female rider getting out there and having fun. Andy and I have had the most wonderful times together on our bikes. I wish you and your husband the same.

Jill

PS Let's start making plans soon - I'll meet you and Jean (Mrs Barabus) somewhere and we'll ride together. You guys rack up some experience, and I'll work on getting better from this surgery, then we'll do it.

Great job Sherri !!!!!!!!!

Reminds me of when I gave Cheryl her first riding lesson on my Buell XB9S.

We started out in the local college parking lot.

Pushing her around for a while, and then she started using the clutch and then going 1st to 2nd gear. After about 1 hour she just took off and started riding around the campus streets. I couldn't get her off the thing.

I felt she was ready for the MSF course and she had no problem passing.

That was this time last year, now she has 10,000 miles on her Ninja 650 !!!!

Tim

I am so glad you are back on the bike. :D She (he, it?) looked so lonely out in that garage all pushed into the corner :(
