rushes, plan your trip around the Southwest FOG get together September 6-9, 2011. I just spoke to HotRodZilla (picture below) an hour ago and AJ may be able to be in Taos, New Mexico for the entire SW-FOG. If so, I am going to press him into service as another Ride Leader and HRZ can route you in from Tejas and up into Colorado!

Russ, at SW-FOG 2011 you could be in the middle of an intimate photo of SkooterG and pinhead! They'd "love" to ride Colorado with you as your personal tour guides!

Russ, send a private message to Old Michael. He can answer that snow question in Canuckistan, he lived in Manitoba before they threw the O'Keeffe Clan out to the USA. Don't bother asking the Canucks, they're all a bunch of drunks! At least Mary Ellen and Miss Barb are really cute drunks!

Yep, rode Adventure Cycling's Continental Divide Ride -- 2800 miles on mostly forest roads as close to the Divide as reasonably possible. But that's a dual-sport ride; and you should have companions and d-s tires (maybe not an FJR either...?  ).

Ends are Eureka MT (N) and Antelope Wells NM (S). It's probably possible to, roughly, parallel that route using paved roads -- crossing the divide many times -- and have an interesting theme for an FJR ride.

The roads up there open?
There's almost always snow, somewhere, right at the Divide -- even in summer -- but, most paved roads are, eventually, open (or opened via big equipment in the case of major routes).

As a Canuk, I almost take offense to some of these comments ... but not quite. I am a longways from the Rockies, born and raised as I was in the Maritimes and now residing in Montreal. But I lived in Alberta for a while and spent a lot of time in the mountains. Fact is, May and early June may be a tad early in the passes. You may still have snow up there and unpredictable weather. but FJRguy is from Calgary I think ... he's probably biked through those parts during many months. He'd be a good guy to contact!

Sounds like a great trip though ... Rheal

The roads up there open?
Not sure when you plan on going, or what route, but we've got fresh snow in the Colorado mountains yesterday and today. If you want to play it safe, I'd wait until June or July.

Dear rushes and Rheal, Just to let you know what you are getting yourself into when you cross "Nord du Ligne", your Papa Chuy Viejo maintains a dossier of drunken Canadian profiles he has spotted on his many and varied CFR FJR Forum Events.

Class, let's start off with this fine specimen of Canuckian debauchery. Note the vacuous stare and twisted grin, a result of too many hockey pucks to the head; yes, this one was/is a hockey goalie! Teeth are not stock equipment, has aftermarket choppers due to hockey stick strikes to the face. Uses his FJR Givi rack to hold his current beer and the next beer to be consumed; usually spaced out at around 90 second intervals. Cuban cigar in hand, no doubt laced with a little British Columbia El Dorado "Gold"; Canadian mota!

Just off camera to our goalie's right is a glass filled with Canadian whiskey, one ice cube only; and next to that is a cooler filled with two-fours. At this point in time, if memory serves me well, he was regaling us with stories of Montreal hookers: Les Dames!

Brother Russ, do I even need to continue with the drunken Canucks point of interest? Or will this picture sum everything up for you? Pictures do say a thousand words!

Doin the dual sport CO ride in August.

This will be an FJR ride sometime in June to mid July probably...

Just wondering if anyone has a paved, or mostly paved route..

Yer givin me a headache.....

rushes, this may help cure your headache. These photos and narratives are from my AZ Beemers Friends Michael and Doreen Conner showing their Continental Divide ride last year!

We thought you might enjoy some of our pictures from the road. Left AZ and spent the first night in Durango, then took the Million Dollar Highway to Gunnison, then ended up in Breckenridge. Have been taking day rides from here to Mt Evans 14,000' + and over the Continental Divide many times and several ways. Enjoy! Doreen & Michael

Okay Russ, this post should cure your headache for once and for all. More pics from friends Mike and Doreen.

Thanks Brad, we are having a blast. The AMA conference was really worth it (see write-up below). Today we spent the morning going up and over Trail Ridge Pass again and guess what we saw - Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep - too cool! Check out the pictures from today. As we got into Estes Park for lunch we got rain and hail but in 15 minutes it was over!! Tomorrow is our last day here in Estes Park, we will get some more riding in & pictures! Then we will take 2.5 days through New Mexico to get to Tucson for our grandson's 4th birthday party. What a fun vacation and awesome riding through the Rocky's!! We are truly blessed!

Yup. Like that...

I'd like to know their route....
I will contact SkooterG and see if he can lay out one of his fancy *** maps for you. I am way too computer stupid to do this task. I have their map route numbers, so Skoot should be able to do this easily.

Also, somewhere in my motorcycle library I own a copy of "Motorcycle Journeys through the Rockies" from Whitehorse Press. If I can find it, I'll mail it to you; I still have your address from our Mexico ride.

Russ, this was Mike and Doreen's final installment of their Continental Divide adventure. Like I said, I'll mark up my AAA Colorado map and hand it over to my illegitimate ******* Hijo (Son) SkooterG. Skooty is great on making custom maps. If you give him a back rub and a neck massage, he may even put it into GPS for you! jes' sayin'

As some of you know, we chose to go to Colorado during this time because we went to the 5th AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference. The conference was pretty cool! It was amazing seeing so many women on their bikes, many traveling from back east by themselves. We had people asking us if we knew what was going on with all the women motorcycle riders.

They had a great opening ceremony and we got to meet Ashley Fiolek who is 18 years old and deaf, she started riding at age 3 and has been motocross racing since she was 7 years old. She has 13 amateur national titles and in 2008 she is the professional women motocross champion and is the FIRST women to be able to go pro and is the first female to be a part of the Honda / RedBull racing team and is now leading the points race for the 2009 series championship. It was awesome and inspiring!!

We also met Leslie Porterfield who broke 3 land speed records in 2008 on the Bonneville Salt Flats, after crashing at 110 mph in 2007 (which was her 1st attempt). She holds the 2008 Racing Female Rider of the Year Award. She broke her record and hit 234 mph. She rides a 2000cc, 600 lb, 360 horsepower motorcycle and she only weighs 110 lbs.

Then we met Lois Pryce who traveled 20,000 miles & 10 months by herself from Alaska to the tip of South America on a 225cc Yamaha. Then she went from London to Capetown, Africa and upgraded her bike to a 250cc, which took 4 months and 10,000 miles, again all by her self. This she said was a bit scary with civil wars going on in Angola.

We met Amy Holland the editor of "Friction Zone" Magazine on Loveland Pass, she is the one who took our picture next to the sign, a few minutes before it started to snow on us.

They had great seminars and the one Michael and I went to was "Accident Scene Management" what to do if someone goes down or you come across an accident scene, especially a motorcycle accident scene.

We also went on a group ride to Hot Sulfur Springs. There were 6 or more different manufacturers with demo rides, including BMW.

There were over 1000 in attendance, mostly women!! Very cool and very inspiring. The theme was "Riding to New Heights" and they encouraged us all to help inspire other women to get on and ride a motorcycle.

After the event we moved on to Estes Park, CO after traversing "Trail Ridge Pass" in Rocky Mountain National Park, the highest continuous paved road at 12,183' in North America. We found out the highest paved road in North America is to the top of MT Evans at over 14,000', which we road while staying in Breckenridge (see the picture of the Mountain Goats).

Good Morning Russ, are you sober yet? https://www.motorcyclecolorado.com/berthoud_pass.htm Looking for Colorado routing for you, I came across this great web site. One of the passes my friends Michael and Doreen Conner rode was Berthoud pass, so I looked it up. You can use this site to plan your entire CO motorcycle riding vacation!
