I see that Continental makes the TKC 80 in sizes that fit the FJR. I'm curious how many miles (dirt/pavement) they would have in them. Any thoughts?

The Super Tenere is about the same weight. The Super Ten guys usually don't see more than around 3k from a set of TKC80s with mixed use, heavy on the dirt. Not sure what you have in mind, but a CT on the rear lasts way longer and gives very good traction in marginal stuff, from gravel to singletrack. I've taken the FJR with CT up roads and trails, across river beds, (dry and wet), and places where GS guys parked and walked while I rode.

I have about 1,000 miles on a rear on my 410 pound Husky with 58 hp and it's about 1/3 gone. I would imagine even quicker evaporation on an FJR.

A set might make it across the Trans-Labrador......

Here is the reply from the Continental rep.

"Thanks for your interest in Continental TKC80 tires for your FJR 1300. I think this would be a very good choice for your ride as the TKC80 works great on dirt and gravel roads while still riding smooth on pavement. The load rating looks compatible with your bike but the speed rating is lower- be sure to keep this in mind. The TKC80 in your sizes are rated for a sustained 99 mph (Q rating) whereas the typical tire for the FJR would be rated for 168 mph + (W rating)

I'd like to see a photo of your bike with the TKC80 if you chose to fit them."

Looks promising.

Okay, here is a thought. I might go to Pete's Superbike in Montreal and mount up a set of TKC 80's, ride downriver to Beiu-Comeau where we could hook up and then ride together up to Labrador City and across the Trans-Labrador. I could then drop ship a set of PR3's to St Anthony by which time I think the TKC's may be done.

What do you think Scott?

I was thinking about doing the TLH CCW after CFR but let me put some thought into it. The other thing that I was thinking was to have fresh tires at the start of the TLH coming from Red Bay direction. I do like the thought of having another rider with me. We have a few months to sort this out.
