Jeesh...

just imagine what else they could make using that technology?

(it's Friday, late) what else would you expect from me? :****:

Amazing machines...even when they don't work as you'd like. There's a story round here about a titanium bulkhead piece being milled out for an F-22 that took many days to complete. The part would be removed and stored over any weekend for safety. One fine weekend, a tooling software developer used the multi-axis for some development work and didn't completely return the machine to the operating state and didn't inform the regular operator. Well, when the part was returned and the program restarted, the head did a diagonal run right through the part causing damage that led to the part being scrapped. Must have been one hell of a show 'cause those parts can run between 6 to 7 figures without trying too hard. And the lead time to get a Ti ingot big enough to hog the part out of is huge.

Here's an example. Page down a bit.

Cheers,

W2

Hell, if you are an old school machinist it about time to go back to school or retire. I bet that took a few hours to complete!!

Not much left out there for us old handle turner's to do. Funny thing is that a lot of these operators now only know how to push button's. A few can hand key and even fewer can do a second operation on a manual machine.

That really makes me miss machining. For 23 yrs I had a blast making all kinds of widgits. Then the defense work went south. I had a sweet Mazak lathe with live tooling, bar-feeder and chip conveyor that would run all night unattended. Of course the good ol boss would come in before leaving for the night and occasionally turn the coolant pump off or turn the rapid speed up to 100%. He would crash every tool in the turret. But it made nice pretty blue and red chips for as long as it could. lol At least $5000.00 worth of damage 2 times.

Phenominal peice of machinery and fanstistic demonstration. Did you check out the detail on the 50th logo---WOW!

But, it really reminded me of going to the dentist :dribble:
