CH cop arrested after motorcycle chaseBy Dan Nguyen - [email protected] -

Last Updated 7:03 pm PDT Sunday, August 10, 2008

A Citrus Heights police officer was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of leading police on a 41-mile high speed chase and attempting to run over a Folsom police officer with his motorcycle, Folsom Police spokeswoman Michelle Beattie said.

James Michael Fraser, 27, had been employed with the Citrus Heights police department for eight months, said Citrus Heights Police Department Lt. Gina Anderson. Prior to that, Fraser had been employed by a law enforcement agency in Southern California, Anderson said.

Anderson said Fraser, who was released on $100,000 bail Saturday, has been fired from his job as a patrol officer.

"As of us last talking together, he is no longer employed," Anderson said. "The behavior was outrageous and completely unacceptable"

According to Beattie, at approximately 2:03 a.m Saturday., Folsom Police attempted to stop Fraser for reportedly speeding and committing a red light violation.

Fraser then reportedly led police on an approximately 32-minute chase between Folsom and El Dorado County, at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour.

He reportedly lost control twice during the chase. After the second time, Beattie said, he ignored officers' orders, climbed back on his motorcycle and drove into the police officers. He collided with a police vehicle and ran over an officer's foot, Beattie said.

Fraser was taken into custody at Lake Hills and Salmon Falls, in El Dorado County, Beattie said. He was treated for minor injuries and booked into Sacramento County jail on suspicion of felony evasion of police and assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer.

At the time of the booking, he said he was employed as a police officer with Citrus Heights, Beattie said.

Anderson said she does not dispute the Folsom Police Department's report.

"We support the Folsom Department," she said.

Beattie said the use of alcohol and or drugs has not been excluded, pending lab results.

Thats just messed up! Sorry to hear one of our best and brightest had to lose judgement and create this mess for himself. Hopefully he learns from this mistake, sounds like some time in jail or prison to follow.

Not necessarily, especially if they haven't ruled out drugs or alcohol. The simple truth is, every profession has those that **** it up for the rest of us, cops are no different. Granted, I believe there are fewer by percentage, but, sadly, they still exist.

Unlike other posts of recent memory like the cop who didn't know a trooper was trying to catch him, this one, there is no ambiguity about his actions. You can't "not see" the officer you are running over of the police vehicle you hit.

Hey -- that was around here. As to professional courtesy if he'd just pulled over -- not necessarily, and especially so if alcohol was involved (sure sounds like it must have been). (EDIT -- looks like Pony beat me to it while I had the tab open.)

What I've seen, at least in one case involving a LEO who got cited for reckless driving on his motorcycle (3 claimed violations for same speeding incident) is that when LEOs get cited, they don't necessarily just have the citation penalties; they may also have department discipline and loss of pay for a while (or even loss of job with more serious charges like DUI).

He was treated for minor injuries...
Probably sustained during the post-pullover massaging by his pissed-off fellow officers.

when convicted, He shuld be penalized to the furthest extent of the Law. No excuse for his actions. And I'm sure there will be no drug rehab, AA, options for him, as there would be for anyone else. But thats the way it goes when you are held to a higher standerd. no doubt he will get jail time...rightfully so. (the life expentancy for a cop in general population 6 months)

Well, that was STUPID! I wonder if they found out he was a cop before or after the end of the pursuit. Could be why they didn't whack him when he ran over them...Of course, contrary to TV, sometimes that stuff happens very fast and the thought process to get the Hell out of the way over comes the thought to draw a weapon. Who knows...did I mention that was STUPID??

I bet they did. The story says, "he ignored officers' orders, climbed back on his motorcycle and drove into the police officers." That suggests that he got off the bike and the cops didn't immediately handcuff him/take his keys. They only would have done that if they had known he was a fellow officer.
