Now that is pretty impressive. Except the part about it learning how I pedal. There would not be much to learn. It would think a Giant Sloth was riding the bike.

Starts at $700. I foresee a shortage on hacksaw blades in places where owners lock up their bikes with these on......

If the motor is paired to the owners cell phone app, the motor locks when the phone moves away. Even if the bike is 'set free' the motor will still be locked. Their competitor (FlyKly) with very nearly the same device has a cell phone app that includes tracking the bike.

What I was thinking is that a bike can be pretty secured to where you'd have to really damage it to get it, but if you just have to slice through the seat stays and chain stays you could grab the back end and be gone in minutes--the wheel would be worth more than the bike in a lot of cases.

As for the cell-phone app pairing, it would make me a LITTLE nervous to think a signal in my phone could lock up the wheel. If my phone goes dead while I'm riding, what happens?

Obviously these guys have probably thought all of this through. I agree it's very cool and great engineering. I'm all for anything with two wheels. I really think there will be a lot of electric scooters, mc's and bicycles running around urban areas very soon. They make a lot of sense.
