Was there a water leak or?????????????????? Usually these sink holes are caused by water but it seems strange that this happened in the middle of a building.

Now that's the proverbial money pit!

Geologists are looking into what happened. Right now the betting line is that underground water leached into the underlying lime rock and eroded the rock. There are lots of caves in that area and it's possible one collapsed under all that awesomeness the weight of the cars. Plus, there are mines and perhaps an old mine shaft just gave up. It shouldn't take long to find out.

The good news is that the '62 looks recoverable and there is a good chance that most of the cars can be recovered.

How good is your insurance?

Just Corvettes, we loose a few no big deal. They are like Harley"s better off with a few less on the road.

I had a Vette '('80) years ago, and loved that car, though it was a money pit. After I remarried, and started a family, it and the '56 Panhead had to go. My wife cried like a baby when I sold it, she loved it too. The Harley, she was so happy that there was room in the garage. I still would like to have one, but I can't afford one now.

I hope that they are able to recover all those that were affected by the collapse, as they really are beautiful cars IMHO. Except maybe the '74, I couldn't stand that split rear bumper.

Difference between a Corvette and a porcupine? On a porcupine the pricks are on the outside..

This doesn't mitigate against the 'vette..[or the Harley]

Might want to check out the 2014 Z06

Never a fan of the Corvette but for those who do like them this is still a shame. If this happened at the Barber Motorsports Museum quite a few of us would shed some tears so the least we can do is be supportive of our gear head brothers.

+1, Gunny; I hope these Historical Corvettes can be salvaged, my 1975 Stingray is the best vehicle I've ever owned (my Cousin Stan R. still owns it in CA).

Actually five days a week I drive a fifteen passenger commuter van back and forth to work, so yes I do drive a cube!

My rolling stock consists of an 18 year old Mercury Grand Marquis that has 90,000 miles on it, my wife's 2001 Dodge Caravan sport and a 36 year old F250 Lariat 4 X 4. Cars really don't mean much to me, I don't mind Corvettes or Harley's for that matter as I rode the same old 65 Panhead for twenty years!

A Corvette most likely kept me from doing some hard time as a young man, an embarrassing time of my life for sure!

I actually just wanted to stir up some of the short guys with little dicks!

Kevin Bro', I went ahead and fixed it! Sold my Vette to my Cousin with the provision I get 1st dibs to buy her back, every Christmas Card I remind Stan of it!

I don't like all Corvettes, but the ones with the big fenders like that are among my favorites. Nice car Don.

I don't even understand why we care. They have four wheels, and, instead of metal, the box is fiberglass.

A cage is a cage.

I do get a thrill out of watching expensive cages buy the farm. I would get the same pleasure watching those videos if the room was loaded with . . . um . . .what's another classic car? Mustards? Mustaggs? You know, the one with the horse on the grill.

I don't own a muscle car...but I wouldn't mind owning one at all.

In fact, cruising with the pedal to the metal can be somewhat invigorating. I might even open up the windows and stick my head out the window...
