So I'm going to lunch, and this guy in a doo-rag and shorts pulls up next to me at the light on his Hardly Ableson with loud pipes. BLAP BLAP BLAP BLAP.

He looks at me wearing ATTGATT in 90F temperatures on my all-plastic inline-4 Jap bike. He visibly decides he needs gas badly enough to talk to me anyway, and asks where a gas station is.

So I sent him to Suncoast Energys. Note he didn't ask for cheap gas, or the nearest station...

It wouldn't be quite so bad if it weren't such a blatant rip-off.

The last time gas was this high oil was more than $140 a barrel -0 it is fully 30% less these days.

The concept of 'supply & demand' only works if there is some form of competition to keep things 'real' - this is essentially a monopoly, inflated by profit-seeking investors who add no value to the process and those who would impose raxes are perfectly happy to go slong with the scenario because their take is inflated alinng with the price.

True, but apparently people pay it w/o a quiver. Personally when I started this job by the airport, I took one look at the price on the pump, said "**** NO!" and drove off. I seem to be the only one able to do that.

So there's seemingly a very high demand for expensive gas near the airport as two of these stations have no problem staying in business charging these prices. It's not a monopoly as there's a Race Trac with normal prices 6 blocks down the road. It's also not price-gouging as the price is that high every day, not just during special circumstances or a disaster.

The county & city have been trying for years to tone these guys down without any success. The sign law is just the latest round. They realize how it pisses off the tourists who are the major source of income around here.

Oh, and when oil was $140/bbl I think this station was like $8.49/gal. Yep. You can get up off the floor now...

I've been seeing that in the news how they are contesting the sign law. I don't have a problem with it personally but they should have to advertise their prices IMO...

You work near the Armed Forces Reserve Center? Navy Exchange? I don't get over there much since I retired from the USNR, but am well familiar with the area.

+1000... exactly my thought too. If you fight advertising it that hard, then you obviously know you're doing something wrong and dishonest.

I don't know where those places are. There's TONS of things at the airport that I'm only vaguely aware of, because it's so huge. I'm just north of MCO, just across the street from the FAA FBO, and deep behind the Denny's on 436. Big building saying "Oracle" on the side. (Except for today - Friday - when I work from home)

Yesterday when I went to work, I was followed by a 737... the back road I take is directly in line with the normal approach, and we get a plane every 3-6 minutes. Last time I flew into MCO with another co-worker, we could see our building from the air, so we made all the "just drop me off here!" jokes.

With that kind of a ripoff, it's surprising somebody isn't so shocked that they forget to put the nozzle into their tank and just leave it pumping right onto the ground as they ride away. By mistake. ;)

When I was in Orlando about 6 weeks ago petrol was about $3.70 ,do not complain .I'm back home in AUSTRALIA it's about US $6.50.

Some one is playing games with us and the Media dose no want to talk about it . When oil was at its highest about $147 we paid about the same BUT our dollars has improved over 30% so that alone should make it cheaper let alone ouil being around $101

Boy I wish I was wrong but I think its Government screwing us moreso than oil companies !!!!!

So how much does Hertz and Avis get for the same gallons?

That's the only reason that this rip off works. The rental companies rip you off even worse. :glare:

I travel for work almost every month, and I can tell you that I never pay much attention to the gas prices near the rental return location (typically at or near the airport), as I am not the one ultimately paying it. I just look for the closest gas to the drop-off lot and that works for me. Now, if I were fueling my own vehicle, then that's a whole 'nuther story!
