Cover a wet bike?

Garage is being remodeled, FJR now lives in the side yard under a Dowco cover (with vent). A front came through and it started raining on and off yesterday here in Miami before I could get the cover on after I rode. It didn't stop until about 10 PM. I wiped the bike down with a towel as well as I could in the dark and put the cover on. I doubt that it will make much difference one way or the other for this one time, but just curious if it would be better to leave it uncovered when parts are still wet...what do you think?

If you wiped it down and the cover has a vent you should be just fine covering it.

I'd wait until everything dried, including the cover. A wet cover on a wet bike is going to create a nice moisture bag.

If the cover is vented and the bike was warm from riding, the heat should help dry the moisture. Still, I would take the cover off as soon as possible to make sure it dried inside.

Actually, if he wants to be thorough, he should put it on a trailer and cover the whole thing. (the sound of crickets defeans you)

Sorry, got to stay with the hijack, good blog and pics. All true, but you still found the fun and one off bikes to appreciate. Almost 30 years of Daytona bike week makes me love the event all the more. Add the track and a good sampling of lots of different bikes makes the straight pipe crowd tolerable.

You could uncover it and dry it off with a leaf blower. You could get a small fan and set it under the bike so that air circulates. You could throw the cover in the clothes dryer, set on low, and take the bike for a ride....just to make sure its dry. Then park and re-cover the bike.

But, hey, you're in FL where its warm and humid all the time. What's a little mold between friends?

Got a trouble light? Turn it on, stick it on the ground under the bike under the cover.

The heat from the bulb will dry out the interior in no time.

+1 on the leaf blower. I'd leave it wet unil next AM, then blow it off and ride it. (200 MPH blower) If you have to leave it out for an extended period, a cover is your only option. But uncover and ride daily. It's a shame to see the condition of bikes ungaraged in the Fla. humidity for any length of time.

Ever see what sand off the road does to a car's paint job at 60-70mph?

Now ramp that up to 200mph with a leafblower and imagine what you could be doing to allegedly "soft" FJR paint...not to mention driving water in places it would NEVER get into under normal operating conditions.

Good point about the sand, I blow off the driveway befor washing the bike. Been doing it to my older bikes for years with no Ill effects yet.

It seem to get water from nooks and crannies that a towel wouldnt touch. And a shot of LPS on the cables and ignition. Are there spots on the FJR to stay away from? (breather valves etc).
