Anyone ever notice any difference in riding temp depending on the in/out position of the cowling? I tried in both, riding 430 miles west through Nebraska to Cheyenne wyoming, (89 degrees) and I noticed nothing. No increase/decrease of speed or my comfort level. Engine coolant temp never varied at all. Is this just a gimmick to impress the buyer? 2009 fjr if that means a thing

The only thing they do is block a little bit of wind from hitting your legs when in the out position. I've ridden in sub freezing temps and they help there, but they look so ugly out and have so little effect that I generally don't bother moving them. Marketing gimmick is a good phrase to apply here. ;)
