I was exploring new backroads and in a gravel dead end, I had to do a tight u-turn at around 2mph.... and it got real soft/loose as I was leaned over so she went down on her left.

Funny thing about about panic / adrenaline.. I treated it same as a simple dirt bike get-off. Over the course of 1 or 2 seconds, she went down, I pulled-in the clutch, hopped-over, stood her up, hopped back on and resumed riding. The whole event went down with my hand on the clutch cuz it didn't stall.

Oddly, I see no fairing or real paint damage - just some gravel-damage on the bottom of the engine case. And a couple of small gravel marks under the left bag, which I should be able to rub-out.

Coulda' been much worse, I guess. The bag isn't bad at all, luckily. 2 light scratches, ahead of the reflector (the rest is bug guts)

I (try) to keep my old '03 nice & clean so this has to be repaired / replaced. I don't even know if an engine case can be refinished or if I'll have to find a new one. Any thoughts / experiences on the matter?

Glad I traded-in the Goldwing for the feej. I'm sure it wouldn't have played-out the same way on the Aspenbarge.

Why don't you just place a carbon-fibre case protector on the stator cover? No need to replace the cover, and cosmetically, it looks fine.

I think the only source for them is Geelong, in Australia.

I had a guy that does spot airbrush repair on cars touch up some paint on my bike. He did the stator cover, and you would never know the difference. Absolutely do not replace it for that.

So, I had it painted, and then bought one of those BikeJohnny carbon fiber covers from someone and stuck it on. Now it looks all high speed and carbon fibery.

Australian dollars. And - it's twice as thick as the old Bike Johnny covers. Well worth the money.

Easy to fix the stator cover..Sand the scratches smooth with the lease aggressive paper possible, maybe 200. Mask off the cowl around the cover and lightly mist on several coats of Dupli-Color 8800564 dark grey [m] cc for a perfect match. I am assuming that an '03 is the same color as my '06. Just lightly mist only the damaged area and forget the cc [clear coat]- after a week or so rub it out with a paint cleaner or very mild compound and you will have an undetectable fix.

really.... well that's the type of how-to answer I was hoping for. Anyone have a comment as to the color of the engine bits & pieces being the same over the years? Maybe I'll try to find a gen II around here and just pull up beside it to compare. Thanks!

I did look at some of the add-on pieces but I'm one of these boring types who insists all his vehicles be 100% original. The only non-original piece you'll find on mine is the AVCC.

Theres a new one on ebay for 100.

hmm,

also thinking about this but the guy doesn't ship to Canada. Wonder why

Also, it's a bad picture but that sure looks a lot darker than the grey in my pics. Gotta check out the color difference in either case.

thanks
