So I had a minor incident with the bike a few months ago and dinged up the right lower cowling and saddlebag. I call yamaha and ask them if they do body work.

"Oh, we don't, but one of the mechanics, Rob, works here and he can do it."

"Does he have a shop?" I ask?

"No", they reply, "but he does very good work. We always refer to him when people ask."

I talk to him and say, "I want this to look good. I am not looking to save money, I just want a good paint job."

"I have actually painted several FJR bags from similar incidents" he confidently replies, "I can make it look as good as new."

So I gingerly bring him my saddlebag, cowling, a half-pint of colorite paint, and reducer. And this is what I get back......

I tried wet sanding, not only did the spots not come out, the clear coat was so thin, there are now scuffs from the wet sand even though I used 1500 with water, and very very light pressure. I tried to buff it out, and it looks better, but still light scuffing where I sanded....

And to think I paid this ****** for this work.....

Don't ever trust Yamaha of Louisville. I will never work with them for anything again. And certainly don't let Rob Hines do your body work, unless you want this crap........

Man that definitely sucks!

Poor workmanship is a sign of a bad upbringing. Referring someone to poor workmanship is inexcusable.

Wow,

So I'm assuming you expressed your displeasure there in the store no?

And they didn't offer to take care of it/do it right?

What did he charge for this fine job?

That sux!!

You got a top flight bike and a 3rd rate paint job. Id tell that sumbitch to do it over and do it right, small claims court and get new bags and plastic

I would way be pissed too!!

I told him I wasn't happy with it. I showed him all the bumps, there are a lot of them. He said bring it back and I'll wet sand it to take out the little bumps. Wet sand will take it out... It's under the clear coat. I am going to call him tomorrow and tell him how dissapointed I am. I doubt I will get very far, we had no contract, and he has no shop. He just did side work, and he sucks at it and shouldn't have represented it the way he did. I paid this clown 200 dollars to paint the bag and the lower right cowling. Plus I paid 100 bucks for paint, colorite ain't cheap. At least I know colorite's paint matches stock paint perfectly, now if could just get someone to paint it that doesn't suck.

You need to go to Grey and Wells in Jeffersonville. The took care of my 2002 civic after I hit a 50 pound raccoon. PERFECT! absolutely perfect!

I suppose if the black cherry doesn't grow on me this summer, I'll take the parts down there this winter and get a candy apple red, or bright yellow.

+1........I can't even tell what it is I'm looking at.
What you're looking at is scratches and other defects underneath the color, caused by poor surface preparation and a dusty work environment.

NOTE WELL: To get a good paintjob, a ventilated spray booth is normally required. This helps ensure that the work area is free of dirt and dust when the final coatings are applied. I know hindsight is 20/20 in this case, but if someone tells you they don't have a shop, then it follows that they also don't have a spray booth, and will have a difficult time (at best) in providing a top notch result.

Since this guy has no shop, your best bet is to ask for your money back, or at least part of it. Having the same guy rework it prolly won't get you anything better. Take it to a professional refinisher with the right equipment and you'll have better luck.

Don't ask me how I know.....

I took mine to a professional recommended by Skyway. Top notch and worth every penny. $200 and change for a pannier repaint, but no flaws.

You may want to PM GERAULD on this board and see if he can do it. I seem to remember him painting bags for a couple of people who were very satisfied with his work and his price.

There is nothing unique about painting Feej pieces-any good body shop shoots plastic all the time. Looking for a specialist just isn't needed. Oh, and answer your phone.

I AM PISSED!
But life is still good, yeah?
LOL, life is still good, but just missing 300 dollars!!!! could be worse... :p

Pics from far away will not reveal the imperfections. Remember, a good paint job doesn't mean that you can't see imperfections from 5 feet. It means there aren't any imperfections.....

Lets look at it this way. You asked a question and got an answer. You then prosecced the informationto your rationalization to the affirmative. Then you told your self to tell the shop worker go ahead and paint it, with out doing any checking of his prior paint work.

Conclusion you are pissed at your self for making a bad decision with bad results.

No one to blame but yourself. Next time think about it.

just a little fun :yahoo: weekend rider :D

Yeah, pretty much. But I'm not pissed any more, I forgive myself.... but not him for doing crappy paint work!

a distance pick with a circle (that indicates where the close ups were taken) is pretty standard so that viewers have an idea of what is where.
