He's a ******* for running into that car. He was prolly texting or sumpthin.

[/sarcasm]

But I have to wonder- what made him invisible to not one but two cars turning left in front of him?

Lucky indeed!

I've seen a couple just like this one where the guy gets up and walks away, but they always seem to walk away from the bike. Seems like if it were me, I'd want to go check out my bike and maybe say a few unkind words to the other driver. Curious.

I think he walked away from the bike as a response to put some distance between himself and the collision. He was probably not even fully aware of what happened at that point, just looking to survive.

I have been unfortunate enough to have seen two guys crash who never got up again..

I had this happen to me several decades ago. I was wearing a helmet but no other protective gear. Just like this guy I rolled to my feet but immediately went back to the bike to pick it up.

This guy does look dazed and he might even be hurt. All I had was a slight friction burn where my knee rubbed over the hood of the car.

You're lucky until you're not.

I have had people pull out in front of me and almost kill me...fortunately I was reminded by this board to look where you want to go and not what is going to hurt you...yeah, I ended up in a ditch, but better than impacting a car...and I was lucky/saved by some unknown being.

It is possible for people not to see you if there is a larger vehicle behind you...you get lost in the visual noise.

Plus, it looks like the traffic light turned yellow or red, and the left turners were clearing the intersection. Either the guy was not prepared for the light change and apply brakes or he was running it...or it was all on the car driver for not seeing him.

In any event, this is clear evidence that gear is not required.

The most dangerous part of riding a bike are intersections and left hand turners. That guy was very lucky indeed.

Does seem he had a lot of reaction time available between when the car initiated the turn and when he hit it. Hard to tell without knowing speed and angles. He may have been distracted or just panicked and locked up. But maybe he did everything right and at least he's alive.

I thought he could possibly have gotten behind the first car, but then the second one blocked his escape route.

I've seen one rider get up and walk around who turned out to be pretty seriously injured.

Not stolen.

I saw a bit on TV about this crash (can't remember where or I would post link.) Guy was NOT wearing helmet during crash and when they showed him on his new Ninja, he was still not wearing a helmet or any other gear.

Well, he probably figures he's proven it's not necessary.

Somehow the readers of this thread are way behind this accident that occurred May 24 in Clearwater FL. The rider Michael Curtis Smith 22, had no motorcycle endorsement and was riding his friend's bike. In spite of wearing no gear, he had minor injuries to the shoulder, wrist, hand, and hip. He was cited for driving the motorcycle without an endorsement. The driver of the car, Alex Jay Hall, 27, was ticketed for an improper turn and driving with a suspended license. According to witnesses and the red light camera, Smith had the green light.

He's still an idiot squid!
