I'm posting this on all the forums I'm on. I've been reading too much about people getting ripped off lately. Here's a little video that might help. BTW,if you have a debit card, I would get rid of it. I'm saying that only because if you account is accessed, you are NOT guaranteed to get your money back. It's not like a credit card where the bank is actually the victim, financially speaking.

If you are the victim of ID theft or credit card theft, make a police report, get the report number and then call the three credit reporting companies and place a block on your account. That will last for seven years.

Hi Rick.

The guy in this video is Walt Augustinowicz, the founder of Identity Stronghold. https://www.idstronghold.com/

I've been using their RFID blocking sleeves for my credit and debit cards for about a year now. I also have one for my passport, though Canada doesn't have this technology YET!

Thanks for the 'heads up'.

Well, THAT'S disturbing! My cards don't have the symbol on them now, and I'll make sure any new ones I get don't either. Good info. We've all got enough **** to worry about already.

Thanks for posting this. I don't see a chip on the debit or credit card I carry.

Of note I stopped using my debit card a few months back after my back account

showed fraudulent activity twice in 6 months time. I now used the credit card for

every thing I don't use cash for.

Thanks for the alert. I really think all card readers should prompt for ZIP like the ones at the gas station I visit, or ESN like is usually required on line.

I think credit card security is lax, and this is just one more example of it. It really comes down to revenue outweighing the clams the credit card companies have to pay, and they seem perfectly willing to pay it as the cost of doing business, but it is scary for the consumer.

Not sure I agree with debit cards not being protected. I was a victim a few years ago, and since my debit card had Master Card symbol on it I was fully reimbursed. After that happened, I only use my credit card instead of the debit card for everything except ATM transactions at my bank.

Company I worked for looked into RFID tech for tracking high valve items, conclusion to many security issues. We'll stay with bar codes.

A few months back I was checking my bank account online only to find close to $500 in charges on my debit card to Indonesia. My first thought was those damn hookers! Then I remembered I didn't get any Indonesian hookers since the last time when 2 of the 5 were guys. So yup, victim here. Credit Union cheerfully refunded my money. Funny bit was, the bank teller told me to destroy it. Then the next couple people in line (it was first thing Monday morning) were all there for the same thing. Debit card charges.

The teller went on to tell me it's like this every Monday morning.

That is soooo wrong. The fraud, I mean

You can drill a small hole through the card severing that wire loop around the chip if you'd like to permanently disable that feature. :p

I think we need to drill a small holes in the people that steal from us permanently disabling them.

Suggested bit size would be .45 ACP.
