Really? He took a jolt from a stingray?

Edit: Dang, I just went and checked the Internet news. RIP, Steve. You've provided a lot of interesting bits for us to enjoy. My prayers for the family....

There is a tiny jellyfish out there on the GBR that you can hardly see that kills you pretty quick too. Dangerous but beautiful place.

It seems that Steve was very unlucky. He must have been stung close to his heart as you said.

It has happened before. Info on Rays.

Steve had been an interesting character and always had his energy on full throttle. The world was definetly a better place with him in it. 44 with two young tykes. Steve, RIP.

Once again, just goes to show you...when your number's up..your number's up. Live your life and enjoy it. No guarantees on tomorrow. Putting off going on a spectacular motorcycle adventure to someplace you have only seen pictures of and dreamed about in your mind? Go. Just, go, while you have the chance.

RIP Steve.

I know that he knew more about what he was doing and the educated chances he took with the animals...

However, it appears bad luck did him in - or one time too many on the high wire act...

RIP Steve,

His was a dangerous proffession and he knew the risks. I remember diving the GBR back in the late 70's and it was pointed out to us to stay clear of sharks, rays, jellyfish, even a little bitty octopus with blue rings. It seemed to me that Austrailia was full of hyper evolved venemous animals.....the girls were sweet though !!! Thanks for all the laughs Steve and our best to your family !!!

Bobby

RIP Steve,

This one realy sucks. He was a great one to watch because he put so much enthusiasm and love into his profession. You can tell it wasn't forced, that was the way he felt about what he did. Thought sure it would have been a croc or snake that would have been his downfall. Hopefully since they were filming this it doesn't find its way to the internet. It would be disrespectful to the family. Our hearts an prayers to them by the way.

A terrible tragedy...We are all a bit traumatised by it, a dag of a bloke an entertainer and a wonderful animal conservationist. A big loss to his family and many friends…He’s with his mum now.

We, on this side of the ocean, saw him larger than life because of his various Televised programs. He was intensely entertaining and passionate. From the news reports it sounds like he was a hero in his Homeland because of his stands for, and hands-on work, preserving wildlife in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Rim. How sad! Even worse for his wife and family. Dang!

20 centimeter barb to the heart. RIP Steve. I hope I can go doing something I love that much.

:sadsmiley02:

Me and my kids didn't want to believe the news...
RIP Steve
Yep, I hear ya. I came back from 3 days away from civilization this afternoon, sat down to catch up on the news and was shocked to see that. You gotta love a guy with that much energy. That really sucks.

I'll miss him on TV. He visited the Roseburg, OR area to release a bald eagle back to the wild a couple years ago. The news reports said he was a genuine and down-to-earth man. And his wife has a local connection, as she was from Eugene. I can't begin to think of how she is feeling, but I hope God is merciful to her, her family and her babies. He made a difference, and died doing what he loved. RIP

My two most memorable moments from watching his shows:

Him going into a thatched hut in Africa with a butterfly net and bringing out a 9' Black Mamba.

Him losing his composure as he let a small lizard die in his hands that had been run over by a grass fire.

He was a savior of some of the most misunderstood, feared and arrogantly hated creatures on the planet. Hopefully the message lives on. :rip_1:

Crocs Rock!

"Crikey, looka those Pearly Guyts, they're the BIGGEST guyts in 'eaven, get your finger caught in that hinge, you'll be in a world o' hurt!"
