With only circa 900 miles on it, my new '14 FJR's cruise control has quit working......sort of. When you click on the cruise control button the pilot light comes on okay, but clicking on "Set" doesn't cause the speed to lock in.

What *does* happen is that the bike suddenly decelerates as if you'd closed the throttle entirely, and you get no throttle response at all until after you either shut off cruise control manually or roll the throttle down past the closed position.

This is a bit disconcerting in heavy freeway traffic at 80 MPH, as the guy behind you suddenly finds himself about to have you laminated to his front bumper, and I know how much we all hate it when that happens...

Is this a singular happenstance, or has anyone else out there had similar electronic cruise control problem? If so, what turned out to be the problem, and what was the cure?

Thanx,

~Pete

So, you're saying it was working at one time, but now stopped working?

Several things I'd consider before taking to the dealer for warranty consideration:

1) Did you change anything recently? Something that may not seem like it would do this, but did you do anything to the bike (particularly electrical) before you noticed it stopped working?

2) Did you check the fuse? I don't think the cruise icon light would light up if the fuse popped, but maybe it would.

I'm expecting one or two others far sharper than I to be along in the not-to-distant future.

Take it back to the dealer...sounds like a throttle by wire problem to me. If you didn't know it, on the '13 and up FJR's a servo motor actually controls the throttle. The throttle twist grip is just connected to the servo motor. Probably not something you can fix at home.

You will either have to buy a service manual or back to a dealer for warranty.

The manual has section on cruise control diagnostics.

Can be anything from the control fuse to the taillight bulbs, brake / clutch switches to a crook ECU

Well, the poster stormed in, tried posting this thread 8 different times, didn't want to read or follow this, and has seemed to have stormed off. I will imagine they post up elsewhere. ;)
