I know that we all know about the speedometer error. It is well documented here. But is there an easy fix for it? Some easy change that can correct the indicated speed to match the actual? And if so, does this "fix" necessarily have to then cause the odometer to now err?

I'd REALLY like to be able to just read the odometer and know how fast I am going without using the brick between my ears to correct it!!!

Speedometer and odometer are independent. You can change the speedo with no effect to the odometer.

In the Forum's search block enter: +speed +healer and on a second search enter speedohealer. The results will answer your questions and the number of hits from each search are limited enough to be manageable.

Mount a car tire on the rear. Really. My speedo is dead on the money, as is my odo, verified by GPS, (and rally masters). bonus, 30k from a tire and no change in handling over the life of the tire. Negatives, increase in turn in pressure and different feel to wide grooves in the road.

geez Mark, Feejers need applicable navigation equipment just like Rocketships do

get ya a Zumo 550, mount it up, and ya good to go...I don't every even look at my speedo anymore

do glance at my tach on occassions when the engine is screaming like a sewing machine (well, not anymore :angry2: )

Cheers,

Mike

I didn't know our FJR's speedometer and odometer are driven by 2 different signals.... That's great as it eliminates any speedo to odo error.

+1 definately to the speed o healer!!! Did wonders on my VTX1300! An indicated 70mph on my VTX1300 was an actual 63mph. The FJR does not appear to off enough for me to worry about. Plus, it is a slightly more complicated install on the FJR. Splicing and soldering will be required... VTX1300 was plug and play...

One of the main reasons I like to drive with my GPS is LEO's like to use the "your speedo may be off" angle. I want the LEO to know that I know how fast I was going. I use the same GPS between 4 bikes and 2 cars.

Some use bicycle speedometers. Once calibrated they are quite accurate.
both my last bikes...Vulcan Cruiser and classic ole Goldwing were pre GPS and I had mounted

a wired (not the more expensive wireless model) Sigma BC1200 (Sigma 2610) bicycle computer

I love those things and they were in some ways easier to manage than my Zumo

I kept them and still used them after my purchase and mounting of the Zumo

If a man can't handle his balls (falling off) now and then, he's just not a man.
Haruph!! I respectfully disagree.. Though I'm married I would NEVER allow me nuts to just fall off. Now granted in the fine print of every Marriage License there is the statement..

Thy will allow thine testes to be so for removed from thine flesh and subsequently attached by nylon interlocking tearaway threads thus allowing the "wife" unit full control of said manhood and any jocular activity's thus forth..blah blah blah

Again,I respectfully disagree, and will unmercilessly harass any person who would subject his man jewels to such careless treatment.. fer gawds sakes! Don't drop yer balls fellas .. Let the wife do that fer ya..

The wife took 'em with her when she left! I now need the FJR to generate testosterone.

I like the bicycle speedo idea (why the hell did I not think of that?), but will investigate the healer. I am not afraid of splicing & soldering.

Thanks Feejers!

What is this "wife" thing you speak of? Surely not a farkle? Regardless, it sounds expensive and of questionable use when related to moving motorcycles. Perhaps as artful decoration, if well trained. :D

I'd answer that, but I think she's lookin' in right now....

yikes!! sorry baby.. ya know I love ya.... Owww!!!

I've got a speedo healer on my '06 because the 6% error was annoying.

Besides, the speedo reads HIGH. No excuses for speeding based on speedo errors.

In any case, something I've discovered is that the speedo is somewhat temperature sensitive - nothing serious (about a percent or so), but still it does change accuracy compared with the GPS slightly.

I've used Sigmas on many of my motorcycles. As stated, they are dead accurate once calibrated up to any speed the FJR is capable of attaining. I currently have them on both my Derbis and had them on my R1 and VTX1800 as well. The no-frills models are the best, as they're easy to use even with gloves on. Plus, they don't clutter you up with a bunch of crap you don't need, like "cadence". Opt for the "rear wheel pickup" if available, because you get a much longer lead...necesary for motorcycle apps. Or you can just splice it like I did on a couple of mine.

Speedometer and odometer are independent. You can change the speedo with no effect to the odometer.
Alan, how is that possible? They both come from the same speed sensor and you're modulating that signal. What am I missing??
