Custom cell mount with wireless charging. Solid and holds tight. Mast is steel, everything else aluminum. Locks in any position. Removes if rotated to a certain position. Made entirely from stuff on hand. Charge rate varies, but it seems to charge as well on the bike as it does plugged into AC, and only slightly less than a larger wireless charger I use at home. Used this charger, the most compact I could find. https://tinyurl.com/y8aunjw5

I removed the clip mount it came with.

Short video

Within a half hour of posting the video, it was blocked in 168 countries for a copyright violation. Beatles song playing in the background on my shop music player! But Youtube helpfully offered to remove the music, without any effect on the ambient sound as far as I can tell. Let that be a lesson to you all... don't have any fart noises or whatever on your videos or else you might be violating copyright on a Howard Stern bit or an Al Yankovic song.

I did a 3D print for a custom cell phone mount. How did you run your power cable?
Followed the clutch hose down, thru the wire loom, across to the glove box. I've been closing the door on the cable to the bullet cam for a couple of seasons without issue. Next time I have the battery access cover off I might add a 5V outlet there.

Picture also shows "temporary" cam mount, which is attached with two-sided rubber tape. The red cap is another temporary thing, was originally on a can of WD40.

The yellow string is a safety line in case the mount departs. I thought I'd add screw once the location proved out, but it seems to work well enough with the tape alone.

The silver knob is a buried rheostat for a heated vest. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/12v-24V-PWM-DC-Motor-Speed-Control-10A-Pulse-Width-Modulator-Controller-Switch-/400569517437?hash=item5d43cdc57d:m:mBFO2q2a3nI1wSX5OggCeCg Had to whittle down the enclosure a bit, and shorten its shaft and knob. It still hits the glove box door slightly, hence the piece of tape on the door so that it doesn't get scratched if I forget to ease the door around the knob. I'll probably shorten the shaft a little more or find a slimmer knob.

I mounted a RAM ball in the opening next to the clutch reservoir. In the first photo, you can see the new ball mount. I am going to move my smartphone mount to this new ball mount. In addition, you can see my power cable going down into the glove box. I have the power cable plugged into the power socket and the door is just closed on the cable. In the second photo, you can see that I used a RAM bracket to go from the ball mount up to the smartphone holder. If you look carefully, you can see that I attached a RAM mount into the back of the 3D printed smartphone holder. In the third photo, you can how I built the wireless charger into the 3D printed smartphone holder. This specific wireless charger works exceptionally well.

Here is a list of my supplies:

* 3D printed smartphone holder made specifically for the Nexus 6: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2352380

* Back plate to add a ball mount to the back of the smartphone holder (also need screws): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004O8LF26

* Connector: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UGZTQO (long version) or https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002L9LW00 (short version)

* Ball mount to screw into opening next to clutch reservoir (RAM-B-349U): https://www.amazon.com/RAM-Mounts-RAM-B-349-Pitch-Thread/dp/B0036G97DG

* Samsung Wireless Charger - I got it on sale for $19.95 - it must be this specific model number: https://www.frys.com/search?search_type=regular&sqxts=1&cat=&query_string=8928043

Here is more info about the Ball mount next to the clutch reservoir: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/171776-clutch-threaded-mount-location/

I put my 3D design for the smartphone holder on Thingiverse so you can edit the file based on your own smartphone. If you own a Nexus 6, just download the file and 3D print it. You will need to purchase some screws from you local hardware store to attach the back plate to the 3D printed smartphone holder.

I use the RAM X-mount for my phone (6S+) and put a wireless charging receiver on it when I bought it in 2015. I've got a couple of spare bases, I plan to attach one to the X mount, one of these days!

Interesting, and good job. Your charger looks the same as the one I use at home. What's the rod thing on the left side of the mount?

It is a touch screen stylus. When I am riding and a message blocks my navigation map, I need to touch the screen to answer the dialog. However, I do not have gloves with built-in touch points. So, on my latest version of the smartphone holder, I added a slot to hold a touch screen stylus. I spray painted the stylus black because it is actually a pink stylus ("borrowed" it from my wife). Amazon has a three pack on sale for $1.61 including shipping. Yea, a little over a buck for a three pack!

Very timely. I'm just getting started figuring out how to use a cell phone with voice only. I'll start a separate thread to find out what others are doing.

I've been using wireless for quite a while. So much better than having to plug the charger in all the time. Home, work, car, and bike, they all have it. I even have a charging battery pack that has Qi wireless charging. My setup on the bike is as follows:

and with the iPhone I used to use:

But wait, you say. An iPhone doesn't charge wirelessly because Apple hasn't invented that yet. What magic is this?

This is what we did to mine and a buddy's bike.

Stem mount with 17mm ball fits perfectly into a Tylt charger. Works great and cradles the phone nice.

I've seen that mount. I just wasn't sure how well it would grip. That's why I use the web accessory on the X-grip.
