After looking at what was available, I fabricated a custom luggage rack for my Motofizz tail bag. The rack is still a work in progress, haven't decided to paint, leave plain, powdercoat etc...but have plenty of time over the winter to finish. Right now the "finish" is just a light sandblast.

Total cost including a couple hours time and the backrest $70. It helps if you have a buddy with a shop and CNC mill. :)

Tailbag mounted w/o the backrest.

Now adding the backrest. Before the comedians out there point it out, there is only two of the four machine screws holding the backrest on...for photo purposes.

Rack only with the backrest. I'm still adjusting the angle to satisfy the SO.

Rack only front...

The mounting system uses the front hoop and center bolt of the stock rack. Goes on in under 5 minutes.

Looks good. I'd have to say (IMO) that a powder coat would give it a more finished look than leaving it as is. Nice job.

SO..IF I'M FOLLOWING YOU CORRECTLY ..ONLY ONE SMALL BOLT IS CONNECTED TO THE FRAME ? :erm: THE REST OF THE ATTACHMENT IS HOOKED ONTO THE PLASTIC RACK ??

Its a nice rack , but I'd rethink about the weight of the rack and pack plus your wife weight leaning on that one small bolt !

Well not entirely...

If you check out the front picture, the rack is both wedged (from front) and bolted (from back) to the front hoop and supported with the center bolt. With this three point mount, the rack can't twist or lift up and distributes the weight across the original rack. I put it through a good run this last weekend w/o wife on board, and all was still tight after 1800 miles.
