My used 2003 FJR came with a stock and Rifle windshield. I am considering cutting the stock windshield smaller for summer use. What is the best method to reduce its size? I have both a dremel tool and a scroll saw. Will masking tape prevent the shield from cracking? Any recommendations on how small to go? Any patterns out there?

Second what Adam (GalaxyBlue) said. Smitty did it on his 04 and a factory job could not have been better. PM him, he is a member here, he is on nights this week so may not get back to you right away.

PS: Adam, are you coming down to Arkansas next weekenc?

Thanks - He uses the Jig Saw/masking tape/sanding method - It should be easy with the scroll saw.

It's not looking good for the trip... :( I wont know until the last minute :(

But if i do go, you can hear me roaring in the corners with the new Leo Vince pipes :yahoo:

Send it to me. I will cut it for free!!!! :D You just pay the shipping...PM if your interested, last one was around $25. for shipping and sandpaper... Smitty

I'm also planning on cutting down my stock screen, and was wondering if anyone has chopped theirs with anything other than a curved line across the top? I'm not talking sharp pointy spikes aiming back at me, but something with some symetry and curve to it. Don't have a picture in my head right now, but since I haven't started cutting yet, I thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone had any ideas worth trying. I should note, I've got a scroll saw, band saw and jigsaw, so there's not much in terms of complicated lines I couldn't reproduce...

Aquaholic, I have a friend that has cut several motorcycle windshields down. he uses a Dremel tool wit a cut off wheel and just sandpaper to clean up that cut. They all look like factory. Just go slow and cut carefully, that trick seems to be in the sanding after the cut to make it look good.

Groo,

If you decide to cut yours please let me know. Maybe we could have a windshiedl cutting party? I'm just down FM518 from you.

I've been thinking of cutting down the windshield on my Goldwing if ya'll want to have a party. I'm down NASA 1 toward Seabrook. I have a -2" windshield on order for the FJR so I wont have to cut it. I don't think cutting the '06 would work so well because it has a "bead" around the edge of it.

What works even better than sanding is using the edge of a smooth cut metal file and scraping.... You can get it nice and smooth and much cleaner than with sandpaper...

My mech did my H-D windshsield with the cutting wheel, I had already taped it both sides and marked it.

I've had people ask me where I got the shorter shield, said they could not tell it was cut.
