The Cutty Sark was a tea clipper used to carry tea and other goods around the world. She has been moored in London for years as a tourist attraction and was under restoration. She caught fire in the early hours of Monday morning. Fortunately a lot of the ship has been taken away including the masts and deck planking for restoration.

I touched her in 1984 while gallivanting around the world what a beautiful ship...not long after I left England one of the York Minster's wings burnt down from a lighting strike! and that is a beautiful place as well!...And of course it was the time when the Aussies were giving every pom and anyone else a lesson in the fine art of Rugby as I recall? I have many fond memories of England Feejer...

The Clippers were a magnificent example of days gone by when the USA built the best ships in the world. As a side note I saw there was a $25 million dollar restoration in progress BEFORE the fire. I'm not sure what the figures are on the CS but the "Flying Cloud" that was built in the same era and was regarded as the fastest of the clippers (New York to San Franciso - 89 days, Length 256ft) was originally comissioned in New York shipyards for $49,500!! That included 3 sets of sails. . .
