Thats what Yamaha gets for sitting on thier *** and doing nothing. Not even a color change. I still like the FJR, better looking and better riding, maybe not faster on a long straight road, but I don't run long straight roads much, I like the twisties in the mountians more! :clapping:

I've always looked at Cycle World as more entertaining than informative; far less objective than other trade rags. Sounds like Yamaha didn't buy enough advertising space recently. :glare:

Road Racing World also recently picked the Kawi and the Beamer over the FJR. Said the FJR was outdated and was under powered compared to the two. But I'll take outdated and slightly less power anyday compared to uncomfortable, too much rider heat, frequent valve adjustments, final drive issues and over priced any day. Even with some of the issues the Gen II's have had. Get my drift Vern? PM. <><

Manufacturers who don't put the marker forward in styling and technology will get left behind by competitors. Fine as the FJR is, it's now its time to be eclipsed -- in the recent past the C-10 Concours held that dubious honor.

BMW sold opposed-twin powered motorcycles for as long as possible and H-D -- V-Twins; eventually, that market dies away.

Change Is....!

The future belongs to those that embrace it..... :)

(lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way) :) :)

I understand the agenda behind CW reviews ($$) but I do take umbrage at the frequent reference in the review to the C14 and K13GT being "incomparable" in the category and the only two bikes capable of serious sport-touring. What crap. Hell, even setting aside the FJR and ST1300, BMW makes some other bikes that compete well in the ST category.

I'm selling my fjr - it's old and a now a POS.

I need the newest bestest as stated by authoritative sources.

I like seeing the bar get raised. That said , I don't feel anywhere near being $14-18K behind the curve with the '05 yet.

awards always go to the new kids on the block...whether earned or not...

...you would have to pry my feej from my cold dead hands. She's a keeper.

Yeah they fail to mention the bags that stick out too far and look like an after thought. Oh and the mirrors that look mostly at the rear bags and there is no way to fix it cause they are built into fairing....I rode both bikes when I bought my FJR and it was not even close. Power difference was not noticable seat of the pants...

Hey, maybe we don't have to be so defensive? The fjr is great but it does lack a 6th gear, has a (IMHO) a clunky shifter, and is a design released in 2001 and just dabbed at since. I haven't ridden either of these two 'better' bikes, maybe they are? Motorcyclist did a major comparison test last year of the C14, FJR, RT and ST and put the FJR in 2nd place behind the C14, but gave the FJr its due, saying it had the best heat management system, was the 2nd fastest and lightests, was most like a sportbike, had the most compact chassis, cornered better and that it was the best looking of the lot. Mitch Boehm (then editor) picked it as his favorite.

Point is, these are motorcycles we are talking about, not soul less machines (with the exception of the Honda 750 nighthawk I had that truely was a soul less appliance, but it was such a damn good one I forgave it). I have a personal relationship with my bike, and have had one with every bike I've ever owned. This relationship transends the general level of greatness of the bike. This is why riders can be in love with ancient Guzzi's, Choppers incapable of turning, bikes that require an hour of maintainance for every hour ridden, and even motorized barstools.

Considering this, owning and loving the 3rd or even the 100th best bike isn't so bad, there is no need for a paper bag over our heads.

The C14 is too tall, especially if you have a passenger, and it roasts your legs. My friend had one and sold if after one riding season even with all the heat mods he did. The K13GT is an awesome bike, but overpriced for my taste. The ST is more outdated than the FJR and not near as sporty. The FJR isn't perfect, and there will always be the latest, greatest, but it's pretty darn good for the price. That being said, it needs a 6th gear, more colors, standard heated grips even on the manual shift, updated engine (say FJR1400), etc. Of course you sacrifice mileage with a bigger engine. The connie tank is smaller and it gets horrible mpg.

I'm with dcarver,,, old out of date POS....

Actually I don't care who likes it ,, who doesn't ,,,,

I like it and that's all that counts... :yahoo:

I dont find myself wanting another gear, I wouldnt complain about one but i dont find it lacking. Mine seems to be geared plenty low and still gets good mileage. Just my opinion of course.
