Oroville Dam is primarily for flood control on the Feather River. Until it was built - in the sixties - the Feather River made a mess of surrounding areas every few years, and the property damage was often extensive.

When full, it can hold 3 1/2 million acre-feet of water.

Right now, after a long hot summer, and before the winter rains have begun, the lake is pretty low. Damn low.

It's down to about 30 gallons now, I believe.

Yesterday, for no particular reason, I decided to make it my destination for the day. I rode my motorcyle the hour or two up through the town of Oroville and to the top of the dam. I screwed around there for a bit, taking pictures.

Sitting on the overlook, I contemplated the events of this past year.

Wow.

And there I sat, on a beautifully mild afternoon, watching the sun begin to redden the western sky,

and wondering if any other Feej riders would show up.

I headed back as it was getting dark, stopping here and there for pics.

Here's some of what my Sunday looked like.

Have a good week.

Ohhhh! I get it now, You said Golden "Light". My bad. Great pictures as always. You sure can tell that bike is new. It's way too clean.

Ride reports from both Saturday and Sunday? Sounds like OM is not wasting time getting back in the saddle. Always good to hear from you Michael.

I went up past the same dam yesterday - up 65/70, up the Feather River Canyon (70), across to 49 and back down - SAND in the higher passes already and very wet in the shade with some snow from last week but mostly clean, dry and pretty.

I was out with a friend on his Sportster - It was supposed to be a mostly V-twin day, but HD #2 was getting shiny new wheels, pilot for HD #3 had a cold, pilot for Honda Shadow wussed out and pilot for the Victory got lost en route to the meeting place.

Great pix Old Michael - Thanks for sharing them.

And stop tempting me! :dribble:

I may need to go up there... maybe in Spring. I'd rathe rmove up ther eand just ride for a living.

Way to go Michael! :clapping:

Those are some great pictures...very contemplative. I see you never lost your photo groove!

Hope the mcy groove is back or on the way...

I wish I had your touch OM! Not only do we get to see where you went you take us along in the way you describe your ride. Thanks

Thanks everyone for the positive comments.

But how about those beagles? A lovable bunch.

Can you imagine the sound in that house when someone rings the doorbell?!

I need a dog.

And Patrick, V-twins make great - - - - - compressors. :D

Off to the rat race. :(

Very Nice Pictures. I used to be from around those parts a few years back. I used to work for the Southern Pacific. Nice riding through there and some of those other small cities. West Molina for the wine from the monks and Chico for some bear at the Bear.

Keep those cool pics coming. I only look at this site for the pictures. I guess I'm pretty simple minded. Works taxing enough to have to come home and read big words.
