Here is an excerpt from my email to my brother and some pictures:Went riding today to Toketee Dam as part of the Dam Tour . Heated vest, brand new tires, heated grips and bicycle shorts worked wonders. Had to ride into the snow line (2000+ feet); and the road for 6 miles was littered with crushed pumice rock and branches and detritus from logging on the side of, and in, the road. But I made it and had a fun time. Got down to 43 degrees but not bad. The road follows the wild North Umpqua River with many many sweepers and twisties. Steamboat Inn has the best food and stayed once in the cabins... great place, very refined; but closed. Got a bearclaw and a turnover at Illahee Inn to go in Glide -- great deserts. Had bad batteries at the dam but got two before they died, then picked up batteries at a store 10 miles west at a buck apiece. A couple stopped at the dam and was nice enough to snap a picture for me. Ran into a woman at Illahee Inn I had worked with years ago and hadn't seen in years -- good fun all around. About 140 miles round trip.

Cool, don't believe I've ever made that run, and I've lived in Oregon for 47yrs, ...I'll have to check it out this summer. When I lived in Eugene [early 70s] I used to pass the Tokatee Golf Course on the way over to Bend, and since I [or we, as the case might be] were pretty normally 'Toked-up' in those days it always elicited comments about whether we ought ot go 'Tee- up' as well!

Thanks. There is the Toketee falls near the dam that is beautiful. And quite a bit of toking at the (clothing optional) Toketee hot springs a 3 mile hike away. 138 is a scenic byway for a reason... you should do it.

Thanks for the report. Now I know what I'll be looking for when I'm ready to head that-a-way. I headed out yesterday at 7:30am with Lori M (BKR_CHK). First rode up to Olympia to meet up with a couple of long-distance community friends that are doing the DamTour (Lloyd G and Brian D). Met them at Deschutes Dam then had a bite to eat in Oly before heading south in search of Fishhawk Dam. I'm working on my report and pictures and will post when done.

Be sure to let me know when you head up this way for Fishhawk so we can try to meet up.

Thanks and ditto; I'd like to see if we could ride. I admit I haven't ridden with others very much at all, 'cuz I feel like riding my ride and never know if it is too fast or slow (more likely) for others. But if you have the time I know two above average roads to Glide that avoid the boring straight stretch out of Roseburg on Diamond Lake Blvd. One is North Bank Road following the Umpqua River from Wilber (Near Sutherlin) to Glide. And you can alternatively pick up Buckhorn Road right off Diamond Lake Blvd. if coming from Roseburg -- that runs up to Glide. From Glide to Toketee and beyond to Diamond Lake and Crater Lake are very good riding.
