I've used the normal installation point in the rear of D panel for a Powerlet outlet. I'm wondering if anyone has ever installed a Datel voltmeter in C panel near the top. It doesn't appear there is a totally flat surface there. Is there a trick to the installation here? Are there any pictures of a C panel installation?

Disclaimer: I have not looked behind C panel to see if there is room...I'm just beginning to plan out my winter time (if we have a winter) farklefest.

The mounting I used (with the bezel) needed a very flat surface. You would have to use other than the bezel to mount it. Even on my D panel, I didn't choose a flat enough spot.

I would discourage it. Cutting a rectangular hole in either the C or D creates stress points. Some have lasted, but I do know mine broke in 3 of the 4 corners in the D panel.

Some more discussion on putting it in the mirror. I think it's the sweetest farkle so far.

I've seen the Datel in the Mirror mod...acutally, voted for it as "farkle of the year." SnP gave me a "used" mirror to "practice" on. I was just curious abt other installation points as I plan out my winter changes.

Thanx, Guys.

Mine's been done like this since 10/2002 and is working great without any signs of stress.

Mine is in a similar spot as Bounce's. Not exactly... but close. Been there since bike's first owner & nary a stress crack.

Good for you.....really. My experience is probably not statistically valid, but putting mine higher up closer to where your Powerlet is gave me the priviledge to order a new panel from McCoy. Putting closer to the lower right edge makes some sense.

About $35 wasn't a big hit or anything, but it conveniently happened after the mirror mod was posted and I'm very happy with that placement now. No effect on rearward vision, less head movement to see voltage, and my tank bag doesn't get in the way.
