Just currious. If the vehicle is properly repaired, what's the big deal?
There's the 64 thousand dollar question. This clown might have fixed it.

Other than that, depreciaton and retail value are the issues.

The resale value is my issue. Because I went to buy a new Jeep, and they offered less than they would for the same vehicle with no prior accidents.

The door isn't shutting the best and the plastic up front is starting to come off.

Eric,
I'm pretty sure that NC has laws requiring the full disclosure of any accident that involved more than $500 in repairs. There's supposed to be a state requirement for that disclosure on the title form.
Eric,

Jeff is correct.

Tom Smith is a major pos IMHO and has the rep to go with it.

The NC Attorney General's office can make his life miserable.

Have you tried your local base legal office?

I recall you are active duty. Air Force was it?

Sometimes all it takes is a few cases like this to get that dealership added to an "off limits" list.

Off limits in a military town is the kiss of death.

As laws vary state to state your legal office will know how to help you best.

Lots of great advice here, hindsight always being 20/20.

Chalk this one up to one of those life lessons, next time remember CARFAX, the best $20 spent.

IMO if a dealership doesn't hand you a free CARFAX report they are probably hiding something.

This day & age most dealerships that deal in any type of used cars have an unlimited CARFAX account.

unlimited=doesn't cost them an extra $0.01 over their monthly fee they already pay.

Don't fall for their crap of making you pay for the report, I've seen that one before.

My buddy used to work for one and he ran a few VIN#s for me from time to time when I was shopping for a car.

Funny you mentioned that. Just got off the phone with base legal. I have to come in next monday to speak with them. I do believe I have learned my lesson on this car buying thing.

Let us know how it turns out <fingers crossed for a happy ending>

Call your state department of consumer affairs.

and sue the ****** right???
Not necessarily. Find out the proper steps to return the car and get a full refund. Don't drive the damn thing - park it in a safe, secure place. Once you get your money back, jimmy kick the ****. ;)
Hey Nut what's a Jimmy Kick???
Sorry for the breif Hijack, but this is an important question.

Being kicked in the said Jimmy, refers to a swift kick in the nuts. As you see in the picture below, the man, usually receiving the kick, is not happy. His Jimmy is not happy either. All said and done, being kicked in the jimmy, is not a good experience. Unless you are the said kicker. Hope that clears it up.

I hate used car dealers and their salesmen, much less new car dealer's salesmen. Do not take any crap from them. Return it asap.

They probably don't like you much either.

I have been selling new and used cars for over 20 years. I guess that means you hate me too.

You should see the amount of crap LEO's take if you think that's bad! Unfortunately not all people in all professions hold themselves to high standards, and the ****** ones are the ones everybody talks about. Take it easy, nobody knew what you did until now, so it wasn't aimed at you. It's a freakin JOB, not your identity ,is it?

I've tried selling cars before. Its not my cup of tea, and I heard enough of the attitude of some of the salesmen who thought of each customer as a sucker to be abused. Luckily, I DID meet a few who did have morals and standards and intended to be in that profession as a career, so viewed the buying public as "repeat" customers.

I wish most LEOs felt that way. In fact, I wish most men felt that way. What I do pays the bills so I can come home and be who I am.

I see it too often in my job too! That's why a lot of police and fire personnel usually die w/ 5 years of retirement out here, take away the job/identity and they are practically destroyed! Unfortunately, those aren't just normal professions though, they do have a certain lifestyle that goes w/ them. I look at people and sometimes, if not most, *recognize any health problems they may have, whereas police recognize possible problem humans.

After doing it day in day out you do see things through the jobs eyes, if it goes unrecognized it consumes and eventually destroys who you/they were before the job! That's why I have a thousand hobbies, keeps me from becoming "supermedic". I prefer to be EM, that way I realize where, if any, good I can bring should be placed and not wasting emotion or energy on those that don't need or care for it!

* Went to a party today for my wifes sisters twins 2nd b-day and recognized liver didease in 2 yr old girl because her cheeks were REAL chubby from the steroid treatment. Her sister's a NICU RN and was amazed when someone made a stupid comment about said girl that I was the one that straightened them out before the parents could defend their little girl. She was actually impressed w/ it, I told her that's what I do every shift, after a while you recognize disease processes and their cause. It helps you recognize a crackhead from an anorexic/bulemic or a drunk from a hypo-diabetic.

Man, do I sound LAME <_<

So, I sold it back to the dealership for a little less than what I paid. Then I went across the street and bought this.

2007 Jeep Patriot Sport 4X4. The wife loves it so I guess that is all that matters.

Glad they made a deal with that car that you could live with. Hmm...a Patriot for a military family. Go figure ;)

DV Diminished Value. Like he said a damaged & repaired vehicle is not worth the same as a vehicle that has never been damaged. If someone is at fault & damages your 'Pristine' car (MC) everything is entered into the database by Vin#. I have known guys that have got several thousand DV besides the car repair bill. If the car is on the edge the IC will total it.

The Dealer knew it had a 'History'! They would never buy a car without checking the Vin# History. TJ

Unfortunately 36 states (mine included) have specific wording that prohibits DV payments. We were going to trade in our car and were told it was worth $11.7k. 3 days later it was wrecked and incurred $10.2k in damage (mostly engine replacement) and the dealer now tells us it's worth $9k at most because of DV. I cant blame them, I mean I would be hesitant to buy a wrecked car even if it were returned to PAC status but damn!

Oh well..........
