Great trip! First time I have been able to join me ******* step-pappy on his annual trek to Death Valley. Fun, fun, fun! Thanks beemerdons for organizing this.
I didn't take a great variety of photos, but here are some I did take:
On the way to the top of Dante's Peak:
That gate didn't stopa certain BMW airhead rider.
After he went, a few of the herd followed. Yes, there was reason the road was closed. Can you guess why?
Stopped 2.5miles from the top according to the gps.
Funny thing, after I took the photos, I got back on my FJR and tried to go forward. Wasn't going to happen. All the back tire would do was spin. Slight upgrade, but not that bad. Snow wasn't all that bad either. Guess the FJR is just not a snow kind of vehicle. Who woulda guessed? So I gingerly backed it up and turned it around. Fortunately, all without drama.
Here is the rebel airhead GS rider who started it all!
And the rest of the gaggle of gate-crashers.
On the way to Badwater.
Badwater. Lowest point in North America at 242' below sea level. Also REALLY hot in the summer. Not so bad in the winter.
Yep, that there is some interesting mud.
Scotty's Castle tour, with our lovely National Park ranger and guide, dressed period (1928) appropriate.
Nice place.
And that's all for Death Valley.
On the return home Sunday, I finally got to see Red Rock Canyon, just west of Vegas. Been by it a million times, finally stopped to see it.
Looked like a great hike if not in ATGATT.
Looks like some other folk were interested in taking pics of the scenery too.
The place was pretty crowded. Looked like lots of Vegas peeps were up enjoying the rare snow.
Saw a bunch of these guys.
Lots of families enjoying the day.
And lots of joggers and bicyclists out too.
