Last year I went through the same decision process, road tested a '09 Concours 14 ABS and a '09 FJR A (did not ride an AE model) and bought the Yamaha. Like you I was unsure of the "keyless" ignition, which still has a key to turn, and I just didn't like the single large muffler. Good luck with your search hopefully we will hear from you soon about your new bike.
The reason I "opted out" of an o8 or 09 Concourse is because of 1)heat issues 2) weirdness of "Fob" 3) Most important, according to virtually all of the SuperSport Tourer "shootouts" the Concours is the heaviest and handles the worst of those tested, which usually consists of Honda, Yamaha, and BMW models. The FJR always rates one or two in handling, and other facets. The concourse has about the shortest range of all the SST's and falls short in other areas, but has about the most horsepower and torque and a great transmission/drive train.

The FJR rates typically 1st or 2nd place in most of the shootouts, since 2006, has the most range, and always is rated as handling extremely well in the high speed curves. That's what I want in a SST!

I got an '06 A model in January with 590 miles (it was brand new), and man I love this bike!

Having trouble? Too many choices? The wife says buy whichever one you want? Riding a Harley already?
Yeah, all true, the wife's a troublesome wench. Sometimes I wonder why she keeps me around.

Doesn't sound to me like much of a problem! Kinda like being too good looking or too rich......
Money and looks are questionable, but the wife understands the MC monkey I have on my back. The daughter starts college in the fall and I wasn't really looking to buy a bike, but I'm getting fired up now.

The bikes in question are not serviced and road ready (it's a small dealer), however there is another dealer not too far away that has offered me test rides on their FJR's. I have to work the weekend so I think early next week I'll go calling and ride one, then likely commence to dickering in earnest for the '09A. The second dealer has a new and a used '09A plus several '09 & '10 Connies on the floor. Maybe I can start a price war.

Thanks for everyone's input, I'll let ya's know how it turns out.

Between the touchy throttle, heat and quality issues (ign switch, ECU, CCT) the FJR is far from perfect and looking at alternatives is warranted. BTW if go for the FJR, get the extended warranty - it ain't no Honda.
Spent the coin for the extended warranty in Canadian $ (like 800 freaking bucks) for an extra 3 years on my 07' . I'll be passing it (the extended) over when i trade her in for a Gen III when they arrive.

Ya might even take a ride south.

There's an 09 on the floor here...

Or there was a couple a weeks ago anyways....

Get the 09.....after the HD the FJR will be a revelation......you're adding 50+ HP and refinement the v-twin can't touch. There are no Kipass issues to worry about.....and you seem to do some miles.......the Yam has a 26K valve check interval.....oil and plug changes are a breeze. I have an 05 and just stuck a cruise control on it.......and I can't think of a better all around sport-tour machine right now.

Your first ride with the old HD gang, you WILL drop the feej into 4th and smoke them all just because you can........yeah, you will.......... :yahoo: :yahoo:
