I bought an '09 ZX6R back in March, and hoped to track her at VIR in May. (See my earlier post "Its gonna be a great Spring"). Unfortunately, work and life intervened, and I hadn't bought a trailer by May. Summer in Virginia was pretty warm this year, and the thought of putting on race leathers coupled with humidity convinced me to stay poolside. But the itch didn't go away, instead it grew... So, when some riding buddies suggested we go to Summit Point last Wednesday, I couldn't resist!
Initial Impressions:
The ZX - God, I would love to be able to ride this bike well!!! It's a blast on the track, and I have already signed up for another track day in October. However, the FJR is by far the better street bike for rides over 3 hours (at least for my 56 year old back, anyway...)
Summit Point - This was my first time to Summit Point, and I can only compare it to one other track (VIR). Summit's main track is rough (bumps and ruts) in spots, and generally not nearly as nice as VIR. Summit is only 90 minutes from my house, whereas VIR is 4 hours. Yet I think I'll be going to VIR more than Summit.
Trailer - I can recommend the Harbor Freight folding trailer. You have to assemble it, and mount a plywood deck, but its a great little trailer which has a small footprint when stored:
