i'm trying to finish a few electrical projects, and looking to prevent corrosion issues....

can i safely place a coat of dielectric grease on the following contacts:

  • garmin power were the connector slides to the back of the 2610
  • where xm roady connects to base
  • where i leave phono/mini plugs plugged in to components
  • thin coat on electrical circuit boards that are part of my set-up
thanks for your wisdom and potential smart *** responses

Sounds like a mess and more trouble than any potential corrosion issues might be. Also, dielectric grease isn't real effective in preventing corrosion anyway. If you really do have a corrosion problem you might try an anti oxidant like Noalox. Then you could have a real first class mess. :good:

If you're really worried about corrosion, you could use

I've been using it on boat electronics/electrical connections for years and it works great.

Yes to all.

It's helped my electrical connectors NOT turn green with the DC salt water runoff. I can really tell which connectors have the grease and which do not. I also think it helps displace water in that I've had less electrical gremlins with all the rain riding I do. The downside, as mentioned, is that you might have the grease work it's way out of the connection and leave the surrounding area greasy, which can then pick up dust and such.

CorrosionX, ACF50, and similar liquids and sparys work by thinning out to a few molecules thick. They have the benefit of wicking into bolted joints, which is why I use them for those applications. The Navy uses the stuff heavily and will actually dip the edges of some circuit cards. In a conference about aging aircraft, Navy personnel presented a paper clearly showing that the effectiveness of these formulas last about a year or until hit by soap.
