Oh, and a few other things... like

ABS now standard

Rear brakes on '06 are linked to the front to a degree

Heat management has been reworked to direct it away from the rider

Seat height is adjustable

Handlebars are now adjustable somewhat front to back

I believe the brake rotors are larger starting with the '04s

Instrument cluster is different on the '06s

Color ('03 silver vs. '06 Blue or Cerullean)

Windshield is taller on the '06 vs. '03

The '06s have the AE model, which eliminates the clutch on the bike (if that floats your boat)

Alternator puts out 100 more watts on the '06, most of which is eaten up on the AE, but not the A

Supposedly the '06 has a reengineered progressive throttle pulley... see Fred H.'s thread on the benefits (or lack thereof)

Supposedly they've reengineered the valves and guides to engineer around the Tick problem that was seen in earlier models

Some other cosmetic things... but I think that's most of the big ones, unless the '03 owner has added any aftermarket items...

You *could* anaylize the threads in the technical and general directories from when the '06 was announced, where there are plenty of threads. The search feature works too.

Long story short, the 03-05 bikes are essentially the same, except '03 didn't have the available ABS option. Everything listed as a change for '06 would be the differences.

I also believe the 06 is geared 2.7 percent taller. And I also believe the 06 is heavier about 40 pounds I was told. Is the 40 pounds because af the heat management system?????

OK, that didn't come out very clearly- but basically much is the same as per the measurements ect.

The most major changes are a new swingarm for the 06, taller gearing, linked brakes and a cooling system

...and of course a gauge that tells you get 17 mpg (instantaneous) and an avg mpg that reads something over 40- and a temperature gauge :clapping:

The changes from '03 to the '04&'05:

Bigger brakes (not interchangeable--must change forks and rotors and all 3 front cylinders)

Glove compartment

Stiffer springs, front and rear

Windshield size increase

ABS option (not linked)

Color: '03=Liquid Silver, '04=Cerulean Silver, '05=Galaxy Blue

Wheels: '03=black, '04=Silver, '05=darker (greyish) silver, and the triple tree and handlebars

Front running lights/turn signals: '03=stalk mounted, '04&'05 molded into the fairing

All fairing pieces, panniers, gas tank, dashboard are interchangeable

'06:

Nothing is the same. All plastic has been changed, Swingarm is different, brake mounts are different, rear footpeg and mounts are different, front forks are different (thus brake mounts, fender mounts, etc.) Radiator is now curved w/ 2 fans. Rear rack and mounts are different.....etc., etc., etc. I s'pose the engine/transmission assembly is the same. :)

The '06 owners are exploring new territory.

Lookie here, TWN, I'm still pickin' on the waiters and new owners! :yahoo:

the 06 has three bushing per fork leg versus two for prior years. I wonder if Yamaha did this because people adding fork braces said it improved fork stability over bumps.
