i'm assuming i'm screwed, esp. since i bought it used.

what are my options, now that all i have is the givi e52 and the e250 universal mounting plate?

oh, and a free beer to whoever names the quote in the link first. coupon must be redeemed in person. no facsimiles.

thx,

I'd suggest calling the manufacturer. Many of them are happy to generate some goodwill in the community by replacng defective/broken stuff even if it's out of warranty. At worst you'll waste a phone call. At best you may get a replacement.

Otto in "A Fish Called Wanda", played by Kevin Kline

I will designate as my "stand-in" for the beer, the first person from the Cincinnati area to post here that they are willing to go meet up with Dean and drink with him until he has forgotten and/or doesn't care about his broken rack.

I hope you get your rack problem solved !

Dean,

I tried to post this suggestion before but don't see it here. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? They will often honor a warranty on defective items even if outside the warranty period (or no warranty at all). All it costs to find out is a telephone call.

I am actually glad that it happened to you and that you posted this. Here is why. I have had two of them brake in exactly the same spot.First one was replaced at no cost to me. Second one was replaced at 50% of the cost with no warranty attached.

Duane, was good about it first time, but the second time he wanted to refund my money and have me get something else. because I hate the way givi mount looks like I opted to pay 50% and agreed to forgo the warranty. Partly because new plate is thicker and should be stronger.

I carry Givi46 and the most I ever put in it is 14 in Dell laptop with some minor stuff like gloves, shield and ear plug container.

Until now Duane claimed that I am the only one that is having this problem. Maybe now he would be prone to look a bit more into this.

This is not to put the company down, this is to help them research and investigate why this is happening and help both of us get the right product. please keep me posted.

Thank you

here are the pics of mine. Sorry, here are the smaller pictures.

It's gotta be them 30 pack cases of keystone light you pick up at the convenience store......or I totally missed something.

thanks for the info guys. i will contact pca and see what they say. cougar, i will keep you updated. i was disinclined to get another rack from pca, but was not aware they beefed up the thickness (altho, is this going to help in the obvious area that keeps failing?).

thx,

called PCA this a.m. and asked to speak with duane, as i'd heard his name mentioned before. dan said he had stepped out, that he was the owner. i advised, dan said that duane was aware and to keep an ear out for my call. he said duane was working on the problem right now, ran to try the remedy on his bike that he's going to suggest i try on my bike with the rack they're going to replace for me. apparently duane saw my post last evening and wanted to get it taken care of pronto. my intentions weren't to put pca in a bad light or "call them out", and they've certainly not taken it that way, either. very impressive, they were already working on the problem and i hadn't even contacted them.

i told them when i bought the rack from another fjr user, i didn't have the givi e52, so i wanted a rack in back to hold whatever i was using to travel with. now that i have the e52, i'm not necessarily set on the same replacement, they can replace it with whatever, as long as i can mount my e52 to it. dan said they'd probably send me the standard rack, they don't make the large size any longer, anyway, i said it didn't matter, it'll just be for the givi anyway.

gotta say i'm real impressed with those guys, already working on it first thing in the a.m...

Yeah, Duane is a stand up guy. Hope he finds a solution for this one. I was thinking about rubber bushing. Will see what he comes up with.

cougar,

i could'a swore i posted up again, after my last post (839a) but before yours (834p) but it's oddly not there.

admins, if it was deleted, my apologies for whatever i did. what did i do?

to keep it short, cougar, you may want to talk with duane about possibly shimming your rack. i guess maybe you did see that post, as you also mention a rubber bushing.

i'm to send my rack back to them so they can check it out.
